Impossible to cancel a domain

  I was given a notice that one of my domains is up for renewal. I followed the steps for cancellation, but they led nowhere. I’m offered two options: (1) transfer to another registrar and (2) changing the name servers. Obviously, an effort has been made to avoid cancellation. Is my only option to avoid the renewal to ask for a new credit card? I don’t see any other solution at this point. Please advise.
