Impossible to change email address

I can’t change my email address.
When I change it in my account settings, I receive the confirmation email at the new address, I can click on the confirmation link and it redirects me to wordpress.com login page. But I can’t login with the new address.
The late address still works and the change can’t be taken.I precise that no wordpress account already exists with the new address.
What can I do to change the address ?

Thank you thatrobyn but the e-mail address doesn’t exist anymore!! So, I can’t read your e-mail! But I don’t understand why doing that: just allow me to change my address and to confirm it; that’s all!

For security purposes, we can’t change the email address on an account without authorization from that email address. Since you don’t have access to that email account, we can’t do this for you manually.
Since you still have access to the account, we have another option. Please change your address here.

This may be the same process you went through before. Once you have verified the account, login with your username, rather than your email address the first time. Once you have verified that the address change has gone through, you will be able to login using the new email address.

Hello, once I’ve replaced the old email address with the new one I want to have now, and save the changes, it says, ‘something happened and the changes cannot be made’ or something like that.

Hi, I’m glad I found this discussion, because I also can’t work out how to change my e-mail-address. The old e-mail-address doesn’t exist any more. When I deleted it, I forgot that it was still in my WordPress account settings.
Even when I use the link given above I cannot change the eMail-address, because saving it does not work. I get a notification that there is a problem with the saving procedure.
What else can I do, please? -
Karinamo: in my case the problem was the email provider (Heart Internet) I wanted to use, which apparently is not accepted by WordPress. Once I used a yahoo account (@yahoo.co.uk), I could save the change and it accepted my new address. Perhaps this is a reason for the rejection of your changes. Try with a Yahoo or maybe Hotmail account

There aren’t any email providers that we actively block, but if you are having trouble finding the verification email in your inbox, your email provider could be blocking it, in which case choosing a different email address will work.
karinamo–in your case, you’v blocked emails from WordPress.com which will prevent you from receiving the confirmation email you need to change the email address. Try unblocking emails from WordPress.com on this page

and then resending your email change verification email.

it seems it has been a combination of provider-issue and notification emails about blogs I follow having been blocked which I had not been aware of!
now looking forward to installing a new contact form, for which I needed a valid email address. -
