Impossible to create e custom-domain website

Hello,
I’m trying to build a new website by following the 4 simple steps on wordpress.com. On Step 3 ‘Let’s find a domain’ I indicate the one that I already own. Then on step 4 ‘Pick a plan’ I choose the Personal Plan that allows me to use a custom domain. And then it takes me back to step 1 without any reason. There’s no way I can go further this point. It looks like a bug :(
Any help with this issue would be very appreciated!

You are looking to buy the Personal Plan for ? It appears to be suspended
Use the contact form on
https://en.support.wordpress.com/suspended-blogs/

One’s its active , try again to buy the Plan.

No, I deleted this website 6 years ago (!). I don’t know why this line was automatically added at the end of my message.
I want to use a different domain name that I bought on Gandi.net.

Hello ,
Ok so if you already have a Yourdomain.wordpress.com , then just use that to buy a plan. Or just start one new site using
https://wordpress.com/start
Then just follow it up ahead, just choose the URL , buy your personal plan and map your domain using https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

That’s exactly what I’m trying to do:
Follow the steps at https://wordpress.com/start. But there’s no way it will let me map my existing domain name (despite me clicking the ‘map you existing domain name’). When I do so, I then enter the domain name, select a paid plan… and it takes me back to step n°1.

So I thought I will map it later. But I can’t pick a yourdomain.wordpress.com either, whatever I type in the field, I get a ‘already taken’ message.

I’m feeling a bit of despair haha.

I can help you out. First, can you tell me what the custom domain is? And which .wordpress.com site address you’re trying to map it to?

Hi lizkarkoski,

My domain name is sabinesafi.com.
I haven’t created the .wordpress.com website yet (I could use any that looks something like sabinesafi/sabine-safi/sabine–safi.wordpress.com). But whichever combination I try, I’m told it is already taken, even for the most unlikely combinations.

Hi Sabine –

You won’t be able to map the domain sabinesafi.com until you’ve added an active .wordpress.com site address to your account. After you’ve added this the mapping will work.

Already, I get it.
But I still can’t add a .wordpress.com domain. Whatever I type in, it only offers me external domain names (.org, .blog, .com…). It never allows me to take a .wordpress.com domain name…..

Hi @sabsafi, we did some digging and found this was related to an issue with your account from several years ago. You can go ahead and add a site now as you’d like.
