Impossible to put feed in my sidebar
-
I’ve been having problems putting my feed in my sidebar, so I guess I must be doing sth wrong…
This is what I’ve done:
I’ve dragged the text widget to my sidebar, have clicked on the blue lines and written this (tried both in the top slot and in the lower big box):
<a href="”http://ritaz.wordpress.com/feed”"><img src=”http://faq.wordpress.com/files/2006/11/a28.png”/></a>which stands for my WordPress url (the first part), and then I wrote the url of the image I’ve chosen…., which, in case it doesn’t work, I have changed for another one…., but it will not make any difference…! nothing happens !!
Would you please be so kind and tell me what am I doing wrong here ????

OK, I see a couple issues here. Let me write this out item by item and I’ll let you know when I’m done. (edit – Finished)
That FAQ is actually the instruction for two seperate things there so let me see if I can cover them.
If you want to put a link to your RSS feed, that’s easy. Do the slide of the widget like you did into your sidebar and open it up for editing. In the small bar along the top, give the widget a title. Something like “Read subscribe to my feed” or something like that.
In the larger of the two boxes goes your code. This is where you’re having an issue. It didn’t copy and paste correctly. (It actually says type it in for a reason. If you’ll note in your post, I edited a bit and you can see where those quote marks mess things up.) It’s also missing the link to your own feed as you copied in your-blog-name into the widget.
Here’s what you need to put into the body of the widget:
<a href="http://ritaz.wordpress.com/feed/"> <img src="http://faq.wordpress.com/files/2006/11/a28.png" /></a>You can copy that bit and paste it into the body of the widget as it’s for your own blog.
Click on Save Changes and it should work for you.
A quick comment while I’ve got an ear:
This is a broken link: http://www.secondlife.intellagirl.com/,
It’s got a comma in there. Also the ‘secondlife’ bit replaces the ‘www’ bit. They can not coexist within a URL like that. 30% of the net can’t follow it nor can most search engine spiders.
Hope this helps,

^ This helped me too! Perhaps the FAQ could be a bit more specific, or provide “copy and pasteable” code.
Thanks!

Can’t be specific since each link is going to be different for every blog and for each type of RSS (There’s 4 different styles) being used.
-
Thanks drmike! I was having trouble with this too, but now it works As a newbie, the lingo is a little hard to grasp, but I think I’m starting to get it.
-
I redid mine, because I couldn’t get it to work. I still can’t. Any help would be appreciated.

You’re putting your feed within an rss feed widget and that’s not correct. The rss widget is for feeds from other blogs. See the link example I gave for putting your own feed within a text widget.

Ya, the RSS widget being for feeds from other blogs wasn’t clear at first to me either. I wanted one of those “RSS click here to subscribe to this blog” links. I figured how to do that with a text widget, but only after I found somewhere (in the FAQ I think?) what the RSS widget is really for.

I’ve sent in feedback awhile back. Not sure why it didn’t get fixed.
Added a modlook tag in an attempt to get Mark’s attention. (yeah I know. I tell folks not to do that. *SOMEONE’S* moving 6k mysql tables this morning from one database to another.)
