Impossible to recover account – desperate need of help

I am writing because I have lost access to the WordPress account that manages our website, and I am trying to regain administrative access.
I was assigned responsibility for maintaining our university department’s blog, which is built with WordPress. When I received the handover, I was only given a WordPress username (hkbiptk) and password for the admin login. Unfortunately, I was not given the email address associated with the WordPress account.
Recently I received a notification indicating that the password had been reset. Since I do not know which email address is linked to the account, I cannot use the normal password recovery process and I am now locked out of the site.
Important details:
Our organization owns and pays for the domain through Hostpoint and I can prove that we own and pay for the domain.
I can provide proof of domain ownership and billing records if necessary.
However, I do not know the email address originally used to create or manage the WordPress account. I was in contact with our university’s IT department and tried by reactivating email accounts of old colleagues who are no longer at the university. We tried the email addresses of colleagues who used to administer it, but no password reset mail was sent to any of these reactivated email addresses. If I could find out which email address was used to login, I could over our IT department reactivate the mail and recieve the reset link.
Also we are using a free plan, so therefore there is no record of transactions, which makes it impossible for us to seemingly recover it over normal means.
Because we control the domain, I am hoping there may be a way to verify ownership (for example via DNS verification or other proof) and regain administrative access to the WordPress site. I can also offer many, many proofs that this blog is in our hands.
Could you please let me know if there is an account recovery process available in this situation and what information you would need from us to verify ownership?
If there is no process for this, how can we reset/delete the site and rebuild it? The website is incredibly important to us as a way of documenting our work, researach, publications, events and current + past employees. Losing access to it would be incredibly difficult for my work and our department.
