In code editor mode, automatic line generation

Hello,
I am used to making hyperlinks on all my images to allow them to be enlarged, since the last update in mid March 2021, when I switch to code editor mode on some of my pages. I see that the system generates an identical line of my code over and over again.
I have the impression that the bug is due to my A tags
I found that if I surrounded a “Caption” tag with my hyperlink, I had this problem, however if the tag was between the caption and the IMG tag I did not have this problem.
My questions :
Am I the only one having this problem?
Is there a way around it?
Can we export the code without going through the editor, because when the problem occurs, the selection of lines is impossible because the page generates a continuous one. So I have pages that I can no longer edit

Hi Jean Marc, could you link us to an affected page?
Also, if you’re using blocks, you can click on the image, tap the link icon, paste, and click apply. Code editing on blocks is a bit different from HTML, so I’d recommend using the visual editor.

I just pasted my source into a new page in code view, then back into the visual editor, then back into the code the problem is occurring. that should tell you to find the problem, i really think it’s related to my <a tags outside the caption.

Many thanks for that additional information.
I’ve taken a look at your site and I can see that the theme in use: https://wordpress.com/theme/twentyten is now retired and no longer supported.
This could very well be a bug with the theme, that will not see a fix.
I would advise at this point to look for a different theme.
As so not to disturb your live site, you could create an additional site on the account and experiment with a new theme behind the scenes.

I will follow your advice, thank you for advising me the free theme (s), which most closely resembles the current one. Because I have many header images I would like to continue using them.
