In Edit Page mode I cannot use tools in tool bar

After highlighting text I cannot add a hyperlink or change the color of the text, etc. All this has happened after the appearance of the tool bar was altered. Please help?

Please try logging out of WordPress.com, clearing your browser cache, and logging back in.
Also, are you unable to change the color of the text at all, or are you referencing the removal of the “More colors” option?

Yes I’ve cleared the cache and logged back in but the situation is the same. The icons appear as white boxes with a black outline and their purpose only is highlighted when the curser is placed over them, then they show a little drop down black box with the appropriate function in white letters – Text Color – Justify, etc. If I highlight some text and click on the text color box a color palette drops down but when I click on the chosen color nothing happens. I can change the text color in text edit as long as I know the relevant coding but I don’t know how to do that with all the colors.
If I click on an image to edit it two similar black outlined boxes appear but which one is the delete or edit box is not shown. I’m wary of clicking on one in case I cannot reverse the action. -
It looks like you’re running a pretty old version of Safari, so that is likely the cause of the issue. I’d recommend updating Safari or trying the suggestion I made to another user, which is a modified version of Firefox which runs on older computers:

Thanks for the suggestion jackiedana I downloaded an old version of Firefox suitable for OSX 10.4.11 the icons are now numbered boxes but I can get them to work. Firefox crashed though but I got it up and running again. There seems to be a security problem with Firefox as it kept warning me about encryption which I do not understand but will persevere with it.

If you are trying to access a page with a URL starting with https:// you will get a security certificate error but can safely disregard it.

Firefox crashes when leaving edit page to view page. Have solved it (so far) by initially starting Firefox in Safe Mode then logging in to WordPress. Perhaps there is an issue with Add-ons but it works for the moment at least.

I’m glad you have found a way to make things work. Just be forewarned that as time goes by, you will likely continue to have degraded functionality as we add new features to WordPress.com that are not supported in your current browser.
