'&' in html gets changed automatically
-
I’m trying to put an html code in the sidebar of my blog, and it has the symbol ‘&’ in it. It keeps changing automatically to ‘&’ and the code won’t work that way.
Can I do anything to prevent that? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The text widget is actually an html editor, so it will show the entity code for “&” like so (without the spaces) & amp ;
But when you save the widget and view your site, the “&” is display as you want it to. -
Okay, as it turns out, the image that was in the html wouldn’t show up no matter what, so it might not have been the ‘&’ that was the problem… It works now.
I do have a new question now, but that’s a whole different subject. So I guess I’ll make a new question for that :) -
Well, can you publish the code here? I’m not sure why your image didn’t show up, but maybe we can help with that.
To show code in these forums, paste it in, then highlight it and click the “code” button above. Or use backticks before and after the code.

It was a shareasale thing, but now I’m wondering whether or not that’s allowed (I do have a paid domain, but I’m unsure), so I took it off my blog and posted a question about that.

If you are talking about the widget titled “Born Pretty Store” then you need to be careful. Please read about affiliate links and how your blog will become suspended:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/We do not allow any image with an affiliate link. If you’re interested in making money from this type of ad, check out our WordAds program. You can read more about our advertising policies here.

Oh. I thought it would be possible with a paid domain? Or should I get a website at a different host and then put wordpress on that?
I do know many bloggers with their own website use wordpress for it, but I don’t know if they pay to wordpress or have their blog hosted by some other company.

Okay. We were probably typing at the same time. The domain upgrade will not allow such a link either. If that is necessary for you, then you’ll have to look into hosting your own site using WordPress.ORG software.
The domain upgrade is just a name, a pseudonym if you will, but you’d still be hosted here on wp.COM and subject to the same Terms of Service.

(wp.COM vs wp.ORG): -
Okay, so I would have to get my own domain name then. I’ll look into that.
Would I need to manually cancel the domain upgrade? (it get’s renewed automatically next October) -
I believe you can transfer the upgrade to a self-hosted site. If you cancel the domain there is a danger that you could lose it. If you did lose it, then you’d have problems getting it back.
