In-post image editor has stopped working–editing icons do not show up

    @jackiedana

    How about it? This is seriously pissing people off. Reinstating advanced edit would really, really help. I still don’t understand why you decided to dump it.

  • Unknown's avatar

    The total silence on the matter from WP means that they will not take any notice!

    We NEED advanced edit and % scaling!

    You’re absolutely right!

    The issue most likely is that advanced edit doesn’t work so well in tablet form and that is a WP priority. PC & Desk top users are irrelevant to the software development.

    @apetcher
    Posting over and over into this thread and others just to complain makes zero sense at all especially after I tagged the thread for Staff. Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in order of datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected. Posting again and again rather than subscribing to a thread moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response. The same is true if you email Staff more than once or create new threads the date moves forward and it takes longer to get help.

    You can now resize an image in the post/page editor, without even having to open up the image in a separate editor window. We recognize that this is quite a bit different from the previous system, but we hope in time you’ll appreciate how much easier it is to resize images.

    For those who liked the percentage scaling option, please note that you can still scale images in the media library – this change affects images as they are inserted into posts.

    We are in the process of updating the documentation on these features as well.

    As with all of our changes, there may be an adjustment in your workflow, but we hope that in time you’ll love the new system.

    Keep in mind that WordPress as software, both the self-hosted version and what runs here on WordPress.com, is constantly being improved and iterated upon. For these recent changes, in fact, a large community of people (not just those of us who work at WordPress.com) put hours and hours of work into proposing, testing and implementing these changes, so they were not done lightly.

    This link gives you a tiny window into that process: http://wordpress.org/news/2014/03/wordpress-3-9-beta-1/

    But what about image borders?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Changing things without considering the consequences makes no sense. No intelligent response is frustrating!

  • Unknown's avatar

    The media library advice is wrong as far as I can see, the facility to border has gone!

    – Sorry this is just not improvement, it is removal of functionality!

    Is there a way to…make images open in a new window? That was part of the advanced edit section. I agree, the ease and functionality for the user is markedly decreased.

    I manage a number of users who use WordPress blogs, and had a confused call today saying all of the advanced image features were gone… My user can no longer use the UI to add margining or adjust borders at all.

    Now that it’s gone, what do you expect users (who don’t know code) to do? Isn’t that the point of a CMS?

    I am totally not following. How does one scale the images in media library? It seems it takes two clicks to even get to a point of editing the images. You then have to identify the w/h numbers. This is lot more complicated than selecting the percentage slider as it used to be available before this update.

    Also, where are the advance attributes? Images on my Page (in this specific theme I am using) do not scale on their own (they are fine on the blog posts though), so I have to use advanced attributes of the image. I don’t see a way to do it anymore.

    The *only* way resizing photos now works for me is playing around with the html in a completely trial and error kind of way.

    This is NUTS.

    Come on WordPress, give us back the old editing options.

    Sorry but this is just not an improvement. This is so complicated. Advanced option was so simple and brilliant!

    Sarcastic responses don’t help either.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have found a solution – go to Microsoft Paint and select an image and then draw a border around it. This might be 20 years out of date but it is light years better than WP and their dismissive responses!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Trying to figure out how to do HTML to keep all the old image editing functionality that I liked. Sort of defeats the purpose of using WordPress, doesn’t it? Very frustrating, thinking I’ll write up and publish a quick post, only to get wrapped up in all this crap.

    Has anyone looked at what IS available in the new editor? Who the hell needs rotation and flip capability? That’s asinine.

    Brilliant!

    I suppose they think that the ‘chunky’ pencil without any supporting functions is progress!
