In WordPress App, my media library images only partially load up

  • Unknown's avatar

The last two times I went into my WordPress app on my iPad (I post once a week), I had a difficult time viewing my media. This happened all over the site: first, when I went into my media library to delete some images (see the first example image I included above) many of the images never loaded up so I couldn’t “see” which images I wanted to delete. Then, in the list of my posts (see second example image included above), many of the images selected to headline the post did not load up. Finally, even when writing a blog post, if I scrolled up to check my work before posting, some of the images I had placed (and had loaded up originally) did not show up (see the third example image included above).

I am up to date in my app and nothing else has changed on my end of things so I am frustrated that something on the WordPress end of things has changed to make posting (dealing with my media images, which is the content I post as I am an amateur photographer) more difficult. Is there a fix on my end? Will there be a fix coming from the WordPress’ end? Is anyone else having a similar experience?

Thank you so much for any help on this topic. I appreciate it!

  • Hey there,

Many thanks for reaching out and flagging this.

Can you tell me what version of the app is in use and specifically which app as used in the screenshots please?

The reason why I ask is because there has been some recent changes between the WordPress App and the Jetpack app. Details of this can be seen here: https://wordpress.com/blog/2023/02/15/switch-to-the-new-jetpack-mobile-app/

I’m wondering if there’s something awry there. Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I am not sure which WordPress version I have on my iPad (I use WordPress on my iPhone as well but always post from my iPad as that is where my image library is) but I checked that it was the latest version available from the App Store. I just now switched over to the JetPack App. I am hoping whatever issues there have been on the original app will not follow over to the new one. Thank you for suggesting the switch!

Hmmm, it looks like I have the exact same issues using the JetPack app on my iPad as I had using the WordPress app on the iPad. This is what I see now using JetPack:

I am curious whether these issues are due to the use of the iPad? Is anyone else out there having any issues like this? As I said, I post pretty much once a week and only noticed these problems less than 2 weeks ago (last time I posted which was Wednesday the 15th of Feb) and now today.

  • Hi there,

I checked on my iPad and did not see this issue. Can you tell us what version number of iOS you are using? you can find it by going to Settings>General>About.

To you have the option to update you OS to the most recent version? This may also help so if updating makes this issue go away let us know!

    Hi,

Thank you for your response. It seems I have the latest update available. I just tried to post a screen grab image here but it is saying “Data Not Loaded” when I attempt to add an image here and click into my Photo Library on the image I want. I did not have a problem including images on this thread yesterday….another problem.

In any case, the version I am running is: iPadOS 16.3.1 (20D67) and I have an iPad Pro (12.9 inch) 4th generation iPad.

    Does this information help?

  • Hey there,

    This information does help :)

It seems I have the latest update available

Can you tell us if this resolves after the update is run please?

    Many thanks in advance.

Just to update anyone interested, I am sill having the same issue of images not loading up when I go to review or edit a post. I am presuming that readers going to my site do not have this issue, it is just on my end. But not seeing the image(s) within the blog makes it difficult to go back and do things like put in additional captions or the like because I cant actually see what the image block image is. My iPad is updated in terms of system updates, Jetpack was just updated this morning. Everything on my end is up to date. I hope WordPress fixes this issue and still wonder if I am the only person experiencing this. Thanks for any help and comments and have a lovely day.

  • Hey there,

Ok, can you tell us the version of the app that’s currently in use please?

    Many thanks.

Hi, I am sorry to be so dim but, on my iPad, how do I find which version of JetPack I am using? Whatever update was last loaded was done this morning is all I know now. I am not sure where to go and find the version of this app here. I also forgot to mention again that the worst part about this is problem is that not all the images load up in my media library. This is a problem because I am always getting close to my media space limit and I then need and delete the images that I want to delete. When not everything loads up, I can’t properly cull the images I want to because I can’t see what is what. Here is a screen grab from a minute ago when I went into my media library

Nope, I am attempting to upload an image from my library to this image block but I get a message: File uploading is disabled. Please use an image black and an external image URL. I was able to attach a screen grab from my iPhoto library earlier in this thread but I am unable to now for some reason…..

  • Hmm, thanks. We’ll check in with our forums developers to sort that out.

This is a problem because I am always getting close to my media space limit and I then need and delete the images that I want to delete.

Can you confirm whether you see the all of the images if you visit https://wordpress.com/media in the browser?

If they show in the browser but not in the app, do you recall whether the same images were missing in the WordPress app vs the Jetpack app? I’m hoping we can spot some patterns.

Hi, when I click on the link you provided, all my images do load up. When I compared the images that load versus do not load in my media library using either the WordPress app or the JetPack app on my iPad, it seemed like there were differences between the two. I would say about half of my images did not load up and just were grey squares with the image file name in white letters on them. When I clicked on the greyed-out images to view it said “There was a problem loading the image”.

Also, I am trying to include a screen grab image here with this text but when I go to insert the image and click on Upload and then Photo Library and Use the image I want to insert, it fails to insert here and I get a “No data supplied” message.

So there is definitely a problem with things involving images while using the app (in this case now I am on JetPack) on my iPad. While I could go ahead and go onto my desktop and log into my account there, all of my images are stored on my iPad so I would have to fiddle around transferring what I want to post from the iPad to my desktop. I hope a fix can be found, it has now been a few weeks.

Thanks so much for the replies, suggestions and assistance. Much appreciated.
