In WordPress.org you can download WordPress but it won't work…

  Hi.

  I cannot download WordPress (from the WordPress.org page) onto my new-ish laptop that has Windows 8 on it. After a few seconds it tells me “Application cannot be found.” I’ve tried all sorts but it makes no difference. I’m new to all of this. Is it necessary for me to download this (WordPress 4.4.1) or not? I have successfully downloaded .tar.gz that is a link just beneath the WordPress 4.4.1 download button but still no difference. If not, what would be its use please? I have my first client getting quite impatient with me now. Thanks.

  Hi @frediburman,

  The blog at the end of your message, frediburman.wordpress.com, doesn’t require any software download/installation. You can start using it as it is as everything is already hosted and supported within WordPress.com

  I’m not sure if you’re referring to another domain. In that case, this isn’t the right WordPress forum to help with that problem. The software to download and install is related to a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software, but this forum is for blogs hosted here on WordPress.com. The two versions are different and have separate forums. Please post your question at the WordPress.org forum: https://wordpress.org/support/
