Inactive Domain Name

  I have bought a new domain name today, and I was just wondering how long it takes to become active? This website is part of my final year project, and I’m supposed to be posting on here every day, so if people can’t access it it kind of defeats the object of having it. I’ve heard that with other sites it can take up to 72 hours, but I just need to have a rough idea so that I can let my subscribers know when they will be able to access it again.

  Yes it can take 24 – 72 hrs. for the domain name change propagation to takes place throughout the internet. We have no control over this but it does not prevent any visitors from accessing the site.

  You and your visitors should be able to go to your original blog (the one you mapped your name to) always – then when the mapping takes place they should end up at the new name – you can also keep posting while the mapping takes place.
