Inactive wordpress sites

Hello, I wanted to create a new blog on WordPress but I have having trouble creating a domain name because WordPress is so popular and all the names are taken. I have visited several of these sites and they have been inactive for over 2 years (or more) and I was wondering the WordPress moderators/admins ever deleted sites? I do understand they may not delete things just in case people come back to their blogs but I think it is a good idea to filter out inactive websites as it prevents new users from creating their own new space… Just wondering if anyone can let me know about this as I’ve tried to find a name for the last 30minutes and I had no luck =(

I was wondering the WordPress moderators/admins ever deleted sites?
Only for a violation of the terms of service or if the blog owner needs help deleting a blog – BUT – once a blog is deleted the blog URL is never recycled so you would still be out of luck
try contacting the blog owner and see if they will transfer the blog to you. leave a comment if there is no contact info on the blog – WordPress.COM will not help you contact a blog owner – privacy reasons

I have tried to get in contact with them but their last post has either been over a year ago or longer than that so I doubt that they even log in to their WordPress accounts now. Sounds like I am out of luck =(
