Inappropriate Ads
-
I run a Christian blog for teenagers who are into writing and books, and just recently, ads began showing up that were inappropriate. My youngest reader saw them and contacted me, and then they began appearing on my side as well, containing images of scantily-clad women. There is no option on my end to report and remove these ads like I have seen and done before on other websites. This is a small blog and I cannot pay fifty dollars a year to have the ads removed. I have screenshots if more information is required. I’ve also seen on your forum that you don’t serve adult content, and that it may be the result of an infected network or malware. If so, how do I fix this? Thank you for your time.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The issue is not having ads but having inappriate ads which are definitely unsuitable for education. I have been promoting WordPress blogs ininitial teacher training and ecnouraging univeristy students to use in primary classrooms for the past 10 years but will stop using it unless unsuitable ads start being filtered. Unsuitable ads seem to be mainly originating from the following URL https://paid.outbrain.com/network/redir?p=ZaKxyaR4AcXl9zHBFAWpQtTIzvQcC30kKYD3zvYCVprbs1uuv4IfQF_sCQaWrfKeaRims6VbSwytrblMD_yYRSb9HtoCpzw6OwDMEJQYvobubOmGAAs7Sv4qLq3Ix5rS9jo4srGU0gI6TRXEoimXbETBCzOykSOrcoKr4OVHakmuOPJeTRXv96G7xfmxGMFH7fBEIolHqEgJocCE8SiKtg0NVM6I1zErY_srvgpVspPeRroRO_TJ6ifC4CMTwjYeOXJZFohMh4W39n-6cm8F9PFeoNAqo_Vnt2t5xR5vkw-nkJXLAdWqvdSOSUt3oqTJ9r392J50X_9D6wGRBwEWDO7yGXMFLZ6bziPX3tEG2suV2yVS2m1JJopyVYzknQl28OAJl4hpgbH32AReM8VYek608awFjV3sg0A-4cX_T-IaG91arJQ6lyDpCvouwazJh2Vqpj4ftwbOFfBTu7BGwHSQD30QNFUIAX0TEG1EI3FVuc_9RAabIxL5OIS7Gmhhky6zHrLxoMfxw9F235yTD0bm2NETId4kygiJ3r-wIWcwJz1guiqZbjJwtnsRIg6rOyleK_HXPMw7Tghhz6DQLO44471i4IYBzArnVpXH4sToG__6xSzNfTkn1Y1PuBulFBEbI3AOeFoZaNNnTTJiBhM-YoOxJShtR7DW4hAKb–Nq-doGhw8IsYCm7EXZ_TwKgu_NUuVH5uHxZj__gO1FLr-wwFK7GtNQ87G6ma-bevuUMO5zRczLq6v6MCqyIHwHb9LupXXz4Btt3ru-8VgHXpjeksYg9gJXv5PdCxztmkuNhD87Wf05jpklYWQj5FQZuW5eXG5sPE82E1L2jDulni9UTU5sL5OHfGegoytR6to6JMctT39qvD_PGukDWFNvNn2uXUvJLWa441vqkv0khcu85kz-8AxSzW3jUcCbF2Gxlo98KIRu3LNQ8iK9yZgZpE2BPlij7azj2ZOGuCpJloeSAoyi6W9Gx2Hasod6cImCc_n-stdyo4yBHS7RI0CsZS5he2PrKy0Ug7K_JkTiZGRgtmGBHFMXXumJRXqzqat5–hLAkn5prVbZIdNME_I-IsceIPntoLm6eh3auv8Jp1oY_ZJB2ttObdRX0LYxqTgexxlrep_Dfuw-M1beLLpVWOPhGorH4g-6vheGFyzE2M0GUPvTFRwrLHFko-AN81ZopHA7tj6FVoOQ946tts0fGmitMsihDsRX0LpGr6kQlg39IBtt-zojLG5eBd_ab4tghPwDjJkXzyC4C1sx_V50jDQdcvstpkscGaHu15eAFLyO3-P2Hrsl4Joi0C8AAmxYrPKWYRrYOD2aMa0mWc90HJagPK2SWrSjUSIcNVbiFKppqD56XC1I7CREYVPG-Tm0BwwyEvHtFRAlM_-TefeCO4BU0iV0D55tUC_kkIfg&c=cc74450a&v=4
Maybe WordPress can consider blocking such unsuitable ads.

Hi there,
The ads displayed on any of your student’s computers when visiting your site is determined by their previous browsing history on their computer and location, in addition to the page content of your site. What they see isn’t necessarily what everyone else will see when visiting your site. Are these network computers at a school? It appears that the inappropriate ads didn’t begin showing on your end until after it was shared with you?
Nevertheless, mature or illegal ad content is not allowed on WordPress.com and if it is within our ad network, we would want to have those reported. If you were able to save the URL or screenshots to those, please share them at this site: https://wordpress.com/support/about-these-ads/I’ve also seen on your forum that you don’t serve adult content, and that it may be the result of an infected network or malware. If so, how do I fix this?
It’s unlikely malware because we don’t allow custom code on free sites or on sites with Personal or Premium plans, which means they are safe and secure behind our cutting-edge firewall and other security measures.
https://wordpress.com/support/malware-and-site-security/
However, it never hurts to run a security scan to check your computers in general, and I’d recommend Malwarebytes: https://www.malwarebytes.com/solutions/virus-scanner
As @staartmees mentioned, the ad upgrade via one of our paid plans will be the best way to prevent this and be safe. But please report what you find, and our Ads team would be happy to look further into this for you. Thank you! -
@staff-doublebassd The computers being used do not belong to a school. I am not a teacher, but my audience is all tweens and teenagers. Yes, I did not see the ads on my end until they were reported to me — it appears that the ads all began showing up on the same day. Thank you for sharing that link! Ok, I am glad that it is not likely malware. Thank you for your help!

Ah, thanks for the clarification. But yes, use that link to send over what you have found, and we’ll look into those ads. Thank you!
