inbedding MusicWebTown player: not possible?

  • Unknown's avatar

I guess a little knowledge is a dangerous thing! Now that I’ve got audio links resulting in Flash players (thanks to this forum), I thought I had stumbled upon a way to play a whole multi-song compilation. MusicWebTown (recommended by forum member) has a playlist feature that says you can inbed it in a blog, but when I copy and paste the code (24 lines worth), it generates an ad for MusicWebTown. When I go back to edit, the code is not what I entered. the code starts with <table cellpadding=”0″ and ends with </table>

    anyone?

yes, sorry. I just read that. I had to make a new thread, make it a favorite, then click on favorites to see that thread. I appreciate your help; I guess player CAN’T be inbedded, at least not here at WordPress.

BTW, where is your site with the 50 song playlist? maybe I can learn something from that?

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s a blog my brother and I maintain, but it’s self hosted.

The URL of the post where I have a list with more than 50 songs is:

    http://blog.tayuyo.com/2007/09/20/rock-en-espanol-de-los-80-v2/

Because it’s a self hosted blog, we can do pretty much what we want there, so embedding flash objects is not a problem. I even wrote our own flash video player! You can see it here:

    http://blog.tayuyo.com/2007/08/21/shakira-las-de-la-intuicion/

    Ok, enough of shameless plugs…

Now, going back on topic, if you self host your blog, you can do pretty much whatever you want, so if you’d want to have a playlist like the one I’m talking about, you’re better off self hosting your blog.

    HTH

devblog, take a look at my site if/when you have time and tell me what u think of my workaround ((I’m presently tweaking it so it may be down); Basically, I wrote a link to MusicWebTown Player. The couple of things I’m NOT thrilled with are:
    1. it seems to open in the same window, basically taking the user off my blogpage. I’d rather it open in a separate window.
    2. my MusicWebTown username is apparant, which I’d rather wasn’t (or at least that my username could match my website name.

I may try to podcast idea someone posted in that other forum as well. I wish I could find a way to directly access my ‘favorite’ forum threads. Other web forums I belong to either have notification when a new post is made in a subscribed thread or a control panel where I can view all subscribed threads. I haven’t figured this one out yet.

ps: I briefly checked out your site (tho’ I don’t speak spanish); are you a cancer survivor?

  • Unknown's avatar

Cool, I’ll check it out later on today. If I have any recommendations, I’ll let you know.

No, I’m not a survivor… My brother is, and he’s still fighting.

I wish I could find a way to directly access my ‘favorite’ forum threads.

If you link your wordpress.com blog to your wordpress.com username then you can easily access your favorite forum threads.

    (1) -> Dashbaord -> Users -> Your Profile
Locate the field “website” and enter the complete url for your wordpress.com blog as in http://myblog.wordpress.com
then save by clicking “Update Profile”

    (2) Now when you are in the forum you can click on your username and you will see this:
This is how your profile appears to a fellow logged in member, you may edit this information. You can also manage your favorites and subscribe to your favorites’ RSS feed
    click “manage your favorites”

Also note that you can click “member” beside any wordpress.com username and locate all the posts they have ever made to the forum.

Lastly, note that there are rss feeds for each forum thread that you can subscribe to.

    HTH :)

Here’s an example of what clicking on member beside your username produces https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile.php?id=2329811

    @djeddieo
I’ve answered this in your other thread that you can link to a multi-song player at project playlist.com

There’s an example on my site at http://thepriceoflove.net/story/soundtrack

and a ‘how-to’ post with more information at:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=9414&page&replies=16#post-127001

    Hope that helps.

thanks all; you guys are great. this is a wonderful community here, and I belong to a bunch of forums. I apologize for the multiple threads, but I still haven’t gotten the hang of simply finding my threads(!)
devblog: best to you and your bro; I’m a NHL survivor, BMT 10.01.2002; you’ve inspired me to put a bracelet somewhere on my page (there’s already one on my wrist)
timethief: you’re a great help: direct, patient, and clear. I’ll get it eventually. I did update my profile like you said, but I still find I must locate a thread that’s a favorite (or that I’ve posted in) before I can click on my username or my favorites. I just made the sticky (wordpress.org vs. wordpress.com) a favorite. That’s a workaround for me! (I’m fond of that great Denzel Washington line from Philadelphia, “…now explain it to me like I’m a four year old”!)
energetic: thanks for the tips. oddly, I was just listening to some old DJ tapes of mine – circa ’92 or so – and found myself listening to a killer version of “Price of Love” that I didn’t remember owning…or existing, for that matter. anyway, your player behaves the same way mine does, in that it opens, by taking you away from the page. it IS embedded, however, which is a plus. I’ll continue to look at your site and your how-to; many thanks (are you a fan of pure80spop.co.uk? one quick glance at your playlist makes me think you’d fit right in there…as I do)

Thanks Djeddieo, I appreciate your good wishes. And I’m happy to know you’re a survivor… it’s a tough thing to go through.

Are you wearing a Livestrong band? if you want to use the one on our site, feel free to take it.

Now, on topic, I think the way you’re directing users to your player is a good one, especially since we can’t use javascript or embedded objects in our .com blogs. I think it works fine.

I’ll also be checking the site where energetic’s hosting his files… it looks cool too.

Since you guys like 80s music, you might like this list I have of extended versions. It took me 21 years to get one of those songs!

Thanks for that link, djeddieo, and thanks to devblog for his list and Spanish music expertise, which helped me too.

It’s pretty quick to embed these players once you’ve done it a few times. Here’s another one I made earlier.

    http://thepriceoflove.net/story/soundtrack/no-tengo-tiempo-by-azul-y-negro/

Think Kraftwerk, mixed with Yazoo and sung in Spanish. That’s eclectic for sure, but the player works regardless.
