  I want to get a .com domain for my blog, instead of a .wordpress.com. When I get my domain, do I need my own hosting account from somewhere or is it hosted for me by wordpress?

  Your blog can remain here and continue being free hosted by WordPress.com. In the future is your wish to move it to paid web hosting in a wordpress.org install then you can do that too.
