Including a photo from Flickr

  • Unknown's avatar

I contacted a member of flickr to ask permission to post one of his photos on my food blog.

He gave me permission, but said I should link the photo directly to flickr by using the appropriate HTML code

I am clueless about what he means, and thought I would inquire here

If anyone can help me, I’d appreciate it!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Post the image using the Insert from URL option on the media uploader. Then instead of linking the image to its file, link it to the Flickr page from whence it came.

    Thank you….

I had the feeling it was simple, but it was even simpler than I thought :-)

    Well, it’s me again….

it was not as easy as I thought – I had to click on the flickr photo itself, look for the image source, and paste that particular link to the URL box. Fine. But, once I do all that, the image is very small, and there is no option to enlarge it using the adjustments – I could only reduce it further, which obviously I do not want to do.

the image in flickr also has a larger size available, but in that one, I cannot get a source info, so I had no way to post it.

    am I doing something wrong?

The easiest way, if you’re in touch with the Flickr user, is to ask him for the URL of the larger image.

You CAN hack pretty much any page on Flickr to get the URL of an image, but if he’s made it that difficult, he doesn’t deserve to have his images linked!

I think I’ll ask him for the URL of the large image. He asked me a bunch of questions, wanted to know exactly how I would use the image, etc etc. I don’t mind that, if he is the photographer he’s got the right to know and then decide. He also seems a bit paranoid about his identity not being “disclosed”

Thanks for your help, I will contact him.

Reporting back. I contacted the photographer, he sent me an alternative code.

Now the photo is too large to fit, and even if I reduce using WordPress standard reductions, it will still cut part of it.

is there a way to still use the same code in a way that would fit nicely the blog area?

to give you a better idea of what is happening, I made a test blog in my “practice-only” site, and the link is here:

Put it in, too large, and then click on the Mountain icon which shows up on the image in the Visual editor. You can edit it to exact size there.

The code you pasted is this:
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/drgnmastr/317474316/in/set-72157594339559890/"><img class="alignnone" title="Fireworks" src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/140/317474316_1140cda0a2_b.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="556" /></a>

Maximum width in the theme you’re using is 500px. So just delete the height command and change the width number to 500.

    Thanks, raincoaster, panaghiotisadam

I changed the width and changed the height proportionally – that worked well!

    thanks so much!
