Including the posts from a subcategories into a category without going through each one of them

I deleted a category by mistake: North America. This category had two categories: Canada and United States. Each of these subcategories have a lot posts included in them. Now I added back the category North America and it was very easy to add back the subcategories: Canada and United States. However, none of the posts included in the two subcategories appear if you only click on the main category: North America.
Question: is there a way to make all these posts appear under North America without having to go through each one by one and add the category called North America?

You can use Bulk Edit to assign Category to several posts at once.

    Briefly, the steps:
    1. select posts
    2. click Edit
    3. click Apply
    4. click the Category
    5. click Update
