Inclusion in google news – differentiating content
-
1. I intend to submit part of my site to Google News at: https://partnerdash.google.com/partnerdash/d/news#p:id=pfehome
2. some of my content is NEWSWORTHY and some not. For example new product news is newsworthy IMHO..
3. Google news requires a ‘News sections information’ – which is a URL pointing to a series of HTML PAGES. I assume this could be assigned as a TAG or CATEGORY
4. HOWEVER my problem is that all the content that I want to make NEWS is a PAGE. TAGS and CATEGORIES I don’t think can be added to pages. Is there another way?
5. I only use pages because I know how to add them to menus. But I really like that method
6. I suspect the solution for me is tht WHEN I write any newsworthy content as a blog post I then tag it as news AND CATEGORISE it as a ‘menuitem’ and then include that menuitem category in themenus. I DON’T REALLY WANT TO DO THAT UNLESS THERE IS NO OTHER SOLUTION PLEASE.many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If I understand correctly, then there isn’t another way and either a tag or category such as “news” is the way to go.

You can add categories or tags to custom menus too, see https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

I think you should add the news category you already have to your main menu:
http://blog.kothea.com/category/news/To do it:
1. Go to https://kothea.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?action=edit&menu=129288609
2. Select “Categories” on the left
3. Click the “View All” tab
4. Find “News,” select it, and click the “Add to Menu” button
5. Drag the News menu item to where you want it to appear in your custom menu
6. Click the “Save Menu” button

Categories and Tags can only be assigned to Posts.
They cannot be assigned to Pages.
Are you clear on that? -

Category pages are created automatically by WordPress. If you assign a category to any post, then you should be able to access it with a URL like this:
http://YOURBLOGNAME.wordpress.com/category/YOURCATEGORYNAME/
So, on your site, this is the latest post:
http://the5krunner.com/2015/04/10/garmin-forerunner-630-thoughts-opinion-and-comment-forerunner630/And one of the categories is “Gadgets & Gear” so you can access that category page at:
http://the5krunner.com/category/gadgets-gear/If you want to add that to your custom menu, just make sure to select “Category” on the left right before you add the menu item.
