Incoming Links

Help….
I just found this in the dashboard….This dashboard widget queries Google Blog Search so that when another blog links to your site it will show up here. It has found no incoming links… yet. It’s okay — there is no rush.
and i’m not to sure what it all means, could someone explain it to me??
Thank you so much

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It means that, according to Google Blogsearch, no blogs have linked to you yet. That may or may not be literally true: often Technorati will find links that Google misses.

Raincoaster’s right; Google Blog Search sometimes has a mind of its own.
You can always double-check this by going to http://blogsearch.google.com/ and searching for your blog URL. I checked just now and there are indeed no current links to your domain indexed.
-
And Blogsearch, of course, only searches what Google considers to be a blog. There are lots of websites and even some blogs that aren’t in Google Blogsearch. Technorati should show them (although sometimes it’s broken, too).

Thank you so much for your speedy reply….
Two questions then,
1. Do you recommend indexing for google
2. If so how do you do it??Thank you so much

1) you don’t have any choice. If you’re not invisible to search engines, google will find you. Sometimes even if you set your blog to be invisible to search engines, they will find you because people will link to you.
2) Register with their Webmaster Tools, get the meta code, and put it in your blog’s dashboard under Tools. Save and wait. They will index you shortly.
lipsenlippien, I can answer that question but I’m not going to because I do not cooperate with spammers, especially such inept ones!

Read this support document. It outlines the whole process you have to use here.

Sorry, I should have given you the link. I’m one of those people who thinks, “I do not have to understand how the car works. I only have to understand how the gas pedal and the brake work.”

can someone tell me why when an incoming link appears on my dashboard, there is actually no reference at all to my site where the incoming link came from. what is the purpose of incoming links? im confused. :(
-
@emporesskelee: Are you talking about a “referrer” that says “auto insurance” or that promotes E.D. medication or that obviously has nothing to do with your website? If it’s the case, please read this:

Because that particular incoming link is SPAM and should be reported to staff via your dashboard Help button, so it can be removed from your stats.

can i jump in to this conversation? because i have a similar query…
i have the same message (This dashboard widget queries Google Blog Search so… etc), but i KNOW that i have been linked to several other blogs: i can see the links, and i’m getting traffic from people clicking on them.
so why do i still have the (above) message? i have done all the recommendations that were suggested in this discussion; everything seems to be okay.
do i just have to wait longer?
also, if i google my blog it comes up, but not when i googleblog it (sorry if my use of google as a verb is confusing..!)
thanks for any help :)

Unless or until another blogger chooses to backlink to your posts there will be no incoming link to your blog. If you are desirous of seeing your backlinks you can use this in the Google search link:example.com (< replace example.com with your blog’s URL) and click “search”. The results display all the sites linking to your site. Note that you can also track the total number at the top to see if links are increasing or decreasing.
