Incoming Pingbacks not happening

  A WP blog that regularly links to my wordpress.com hosted blog, sent me pingbacks. I’m not sure of the exact cutoff date, but it appears to have stopped working when the blog in question upgraded to WP 5.1, is this a feature or a bug or a setting that didn’t get copied over in the upgrade either on that blog or on WP.com?

  I have contacted the owner of the blog in question to see if this is on purpose, or a bug on his end….
