Incompatible formats that should be compatible
-
Apparently there is no way to make a post by simply pasting a MSWord file. Yes, I read some of the forum. It is so badly organized that it is near impossible to find the phrase I searched for and it doesn’t even offer a “search within the results” option to try and refine my search (cut the 880 pages into a reasonable number to look for answers). So, I moved on. I converted the Word document to html, which displays just fine in my browser. But, again I cannot find a way to simply post that html file on my blog. WordPress says “Well just use our online editor!” Best joke I have heard in several years now. Does anyone know how to get what I have, looking the way it does before posting it, onto my WordPress blog? That is, without my having to take years of classes to understand why html is so inflexible.

Hi there,
Please provide the blog URL you are referring to.
Also the below support document should help you paste content in WordPress.com editor from Microsoft Word.
Hope that helps.
Thank you.

time thief and mommy hive,
My blog url is https://therealrootofthings.wordpress.com/
I wound up converting my article to a pdf because I was able to upload that. However, I discovered that WordPress does not allow updating a media upload without changing the url and/or filename. No reason for that given. Anyway, I very much would like to simply paste my MSWord document, or worst case html version of it, directly into a blog post. The WordPress support article on Microsoft Word says (in my mental summary of it) forget about using Word, html KNOWS what you really want, even though it is clear that html does not understand real publishing standards, just pixel widths. Just bite the bullet. -
I suppose I should add that I don’t need or want any fancy screen or social media stuff, don’t care about appearance on a mobile screen (to try and read 8,000 words, really) and don’t want to drive traffic anywhere. I just wanted a place to post my article with the same look that I labored over to get the formatting right in word.

If your document was just text then using the WordPress.com visual editor would work fine with MS Word. However, looking at the pdf file of your document it contains A LOT of specific Word formatting which wouldn’t transfer correctly into Interweb HTML without spending longer correcting it than writing it straight into your site (or using the offline app).

Not true. But thanks for confirming that html is inflexible. I used a program to painlessly convert the Word doc into html. And it displays exactly as it should in my web browser. If my browser can handle it, why not WordPress? BTW, the offline app is just like the online page program. Same needless limitations.
