Inconsistent Flickr embed behaviour
-
Hi! I’m having issues embedding Flickr images in my site. When I used to maintain a site over on Squarespace, the Flickr embedding experience was consistent whether I was embedding a single image or an album/slideshow. An embedded image would get some Flickr header information & tools on mouse-over.
Now on WordPress, *only* the embedded albums/slideshows get the Flickr headers & tools on mouse-over. Embedded single images *look* great on WordPress but they don’t behave properly… there’s no header & tools on mouse-over and when clicked, they automatically link through to Flickr in the same tab.
The easiest way to describe it is to demonstrate it. Compare and contrast these two pages:
https://ericdelorme.ca/flickr-test/ (hosted on WordPress)
https://eric-delorme.squarespace.com/flickr-testThe pages are for all practical purposes identical, and I pasted the same URLs for both the WP and Squarespace examples.
I reached out to Flickr about this and they said the issue was on the WordPress side. Can you take a look?
Thanks!!

It’s worth mentioning that Flickr’s own blog, hosted on WordPress, doesn’t seem to have this issue with their embeds.
See https://blog.flickr.net/en/2020/08/28/the-sparkly-results-of-the-latest-macro-mondays-group-challenge/ for an example.
Thanks

Hi there,
Thank you for reporting that. After checking I see we have never had that overlay on single images, so I have asked our engineers to take a closer look at what work might be involved to get that added.
I don’t have a timeline for when we might be able to do that, but I can confirm it is in our issue tracker and will get developer attention, thanks!
