Inconsistent tags in [audio src] shortcode tags
-
Hi,
I’m trying to put a podcast on iTunes, but, despite consistent use of [audio src] shortcodes in all published episodes, there is only one episode that has generated the tags necessary to list on iTunes.
This is a sample shortcode, which does not work:
[audio src='https://archive.org/download/Episode1Slow_201807/Episode 1_slow.mp3']and the single episode that did generate tags has the following shortcode:
[audio src='https://archive.org/download/WrittenInUncertainty2-WhatHappenedToTheDwemer/WrittenInUncertainty_2-WhatHappenedToTheDwemer.mp3']
My feed URL is: https://writteninuncertainty.wordpress.com/category/episodes/feed/
Can someone please tell me what I need to alter in order to get all posts to generate tags?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

OK, it decided to remove all the tags…
I’m after < enclosure > tags to be generated from [audio src] shortcode. One of the episodes linked generated them, the others have not. I can’t work out what the difference is, so I don’t know how to fix it.

Hi there,
I don’t think the shortcode has anything to do with this. The audio file is correctly embedded in the posts, and the posts are appearing in the relevant feed, and that should be all that’s necessary. LookYou also don’t need to use the “src” in the shortcode at all – just [audio URL ] is sufficient. The “src” is only necessary if you add other arguments for autoplay and loop to the shortcode as well.
Where exactly are you expecting to see those tags?
If I run your podcast feed URL through Apple’s recommended validator it shows the feed is fine, except for your cover image, but if I look up your feed in iTunes the image is being pulled in fine.

The podcast itself registered fine, but individual episodes will only list if there are < enclosure > tags given.
In the episde that works, I have this line which appears:
< enclosure url=”http://archive.org/download/WrittenInUncertainty2-WhatHappenedToTheDwemer/WrittenInUncertainty_2-WhatHappenedToTheDwemer.mp3″ length=”44143351″ type=”audio/mpeg” / >
which is auto-generated somewhere (I didn’t create it, certainly), apparently. This article claims that hosting on archive.org (my current host) can cause problems with generating the tag, but has a workaround if a custom field can be created. Is there a way I can create a custom field through WordPress.com?

Hi there,
The article you found is indeed for self-hosted WordPress sites and not applicable to WordPress.com. In addition, many of the Codex articles are often in need of updating.
I do think I found at least one problem here was going on here, for the
<enclosure url=to appear as expected in the feed you’ll need to remove spaces from the names of your audio files.I did a quick test by replacing:
[audio src="https://archive.org/download/WrittenInUncertainty3TheEnantiomorph/Written in Uncertainty 3 - The Enantiomorph.mp3"]with
[audio src="https://archive.org/download/WrittenInUncertainty3TheEnantiomorph/Written in Uncertainty3-TheEnantiomorph.mp3"]While the audio file wasn’t there the feed did update to contain the correct
<enclosure>property in the feed.I also re-entered
[audio src='https://archive.org/download/Episode1Slow_201807/Episode 1_slow.mp3']with single quotes and the enclosure appeared in the feed for that episode as well.Give removing spaces and single quotes a go and let us know if you have any other issues.

Hi, I think we may be barking up the wrong tree. Did you submit https://writteninuncertainty.wordpress.com/category/episodes/feed/ to iTunes as your podcast URL?

Ah I see Brooke and I were digging into this at the same time. Try her recommendations first. Then you can check on the other. :)

For the record, re-uploading the audio with a file name that has the spaces removed has done the trick here. Thanks all!
