Incorporating the 2014 theme

  This is probably a no, but I love how the featured image is done with the 2014 theme.

  I’d like to use it for the posts, but not the home page. Is combining themes possible? Like I said, this is probably a really stupid question.

  No it is not. One theme per blog is what we get.
