Incorrect date

  • Unknown's avatar

Every time I have published a post over the last 2 weeks it has displayed the incorrect date of the 25th Nov, and I cannot change it to the correct date. I’ve checked the time/date settings etc. and they are all correct – please can someone help me?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there – That’s very strange! If you edit a post and click the ‘edit’ link in the publish module next to the date, what happens if you manually edit the date and time and update the post? For example, here:

Also, next time you post, can you please make a screenshot of what that Publish module looks like before you hit publish, and then also reply here so I can see how the date appears once the post is published?

Here are instructions for how to make a screenshot: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

You can upload it to your blog’s Media Library and I can look at it there.

    Hello!
I’ve just tried and if I edit a post and manually change the date to today it does change the date on the site (but this didn’t work when I first tried it), but if I attempt to upload a new post with the correct date it will ‘schedule’ it for today’s date. Also I’ve not made a new post yet but the publish module just says it will be uploaded immediately. I suppose I could just keep letting my posts upload with the wrong date and then manually change them all afterwards, but do you know a way to fix it so the correct date is displayed automatically?
    Thanks!

Are you using an offline editor such as Windows live Writer?

I have had issues in the past with WLW doing something with the date so that WordPress.COM would publish with the time / date I originally uploaded the Post. To sort of get around the “feature” I will set the Post to “Scheduled” in the future at bit. Sort of clunky, but beats having things post with a date last week

  • Good thought, @captnmike. It sounds like you might be using WLW, correct? Since you’re uploading your posts?

Any post you create on WordPress.com will show the immediate date and time by default, or you can schedule it for a future time.

Also, are you trying to upload posts from WLW and have them dated some date previous to when you uploaded them? I’m not very familiar with WLW, but I don’t think it’s possible to back-date a post in WLW and have the date on WordPress.com reflect that older date without changing it manually.

    Does that clear things up?

Yes I normally use WLW for Posts. Once I found the “feature” I started scheduling out a bit.

Never looked much into the exact why or how – sometimes my Posts will take several days to write so that could also be causing something with WLW.

No I’ve never used Windows live writer, if I edit the date before I upload a post it comes up as the wrong date (usually about 2 weeks previously), and if I change it to be up posted on today’s date it schedules the post instead of uploading it. Also, I have another blog on WordPress which I use and upload posts in exactly the same way, but the dates are fine on that blog.

What is the URL of the blog that works “right”?
What is the URL of the blog that does not work “right”?

what are you using to “upload” your Post and how are you uploading it?

The url of the blog that works correctly is http://thisisanawfullybigadventure.wordpress.com/
The url of the blog that does not work correctly is http://secondstar2thewrite.wordpress.com/
And I just use the WordPress app on my kindle fire to upload posts.

  • Hi there – Do you compose posts on your Kindle Fire, then save them as drafts, and then publish them from your computer? Or do you publish them directly from your Kindle Fire?

If you compose a new post on your Kindle Fire now and don’t touch the date at all and publish it, what happens?
