Incorrect display in Google search
-
Hello
I bought recently the domain name https://voyages-ecoscien.com/.
Unfortunately, in Google I have 2 problems:

1st problem – It is the wordpress address that appears in the search result (but not on my business listing).
2ᵉ problem – The description of my site is not at all what I put in WordPress. It’s just part of the texts on my main page, it’s very ugly.
Do you have a solution for these 2 problems?
Thanks in advance

Hello! 👋🏼
Before answering, I’d like to point out that we cannot control Google Search results in any way — this is managed by Google only.
However, you can verify your site with Google Search Console and manage your site details in the Google Search results.
1st problem – It is the wordpress address that appears in the search result (but not on my business listing).
When I searched for “ecoscien” in Google, I got the same search result as you (by the way, congratulations on the 1st position 🎉).
However, when I checked the date of your site’s caching, I noticed it was from 19 April 2023.
You purchased the domain on 21 April, which is the only reason you see ecoscien.wordpress.com instead of your domain. 😊
Don’t worry, though — it takes several days to several months for Google crawlers to catch up with the change for new sites.
But, as I mentioned earlier, you can manage the site in Google Search Console by verifying the ownership by following this guide:
Verifying your site with services such as Google, Bing, Pinterest, Yandex, and Facebook allows you to unlock additional features from these services, such as analytics and a quicker search engine indexing process. While most site verification tools will ask you to add a “meta tag” to your site’s header, we’ve simplified the process by providing specific tools for adding the meta tag to your siIt will allow access to control how your site appears in the Google Search results up to some degree. You can check their support documentation for more help.
Once you verify the site, they will know there was a URL change and reindex the site shortly.
2ᵉ problem – The description of my site is not at all what I put in WordPress. It’s just part of the texts on my main page, it’s very ugly.
The issue is related to the above — Google knows the version of your site from 19 April, and since there were changes after that date, they are unaware of the newer version of your site.
Once you verify the ownership by following the above guide, it will all change to the proper version 👍

Hello and thanks for all (my answer is late, sorry).
For the cache, I check for “https://smallseotools.com/google-cache-checker/” now.
And now, my new domain and my description is ok but… my favicon does not appear….
-
Howdy –
I think the best thing is to request for Google to re crawl the site using this guide:
-
Hello !
I think a favicon indication is missing in the sitemap.
Do you have your favicon in the sitemap?
-
Hey there,
Thanks for reaching back out!
Do you have your favicon in the sitemap?
It looks like a favicon is in place on the site: https://ecoscien.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php > Site Identity > Site Icon.
As above, it does sound like Google needs to recrawl the site.
I hope this offers reassurance. :)
-
I think the recrawl is ok because my favicon has been around much longer than that. => https://smallseotools.com/google-cache-checker/

Even on Google Search Console the Favicon does not appear, except for the “wordpress.com” version

Something a bit strange that I don’t understand is that in wordpress it is advisable to upload a favicon with a minimum side of 512px.
On my side, when I find many recommendations indicating that the favicon must be square with a resolution:
- Either a multiple of 48px (so rather 528px side).
- Either a multiple of 16 (512px is good).
But as the favicon appears for “WordPress.com”, I tell myself that it is in the right format… unless Google is more demanding on the domain names purchased (but I doubt it)
-
ps : it’s Google who write about the multiple of 48px format => https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/favicon-in-search?hl=fr&sjid=9203453575471260455-EU
-
Hey there,
Interesting… have you tried uploading an icon 48px in size?
unless Google is more demanding on the domain names purchased (but I doubt it)
It’s possible – and we seldom get reports of these, so if something has changed, we’d need to know.
Alas, we are the behest of search engines.
Looking forward to hearing back!

I’ve tried putting an image the size of 528×528, and we’ll see in a few weeks whether it shows up in Google.
If it works, we’ll have the solution to the problem => The image size must be a multiple of 48.
If it doesn’t, the problem lies elsewhere.

-
Unfortunately I just realized that wordpress reduced my image to 512*512… the test is impossible to do.

Hi there,
Unfortunately I just realized that wordpress reduced my image to 512*512… the test is impossible to do.
That is correct, as mentioned here the largest image you can set as a site icon is 512px: https://wordpress.com/support/site-icons/#site-icon-image-guidelines
If I can ask, why are you trying to set such a large favicon? That is much larger than Google will ever need, they will create their own smaller version to use, and will not use that size.
If you try 480px instead does that allow you to set the favicon while also allowing it to work correctly as a Favicon in Google? This is 10x the size of 48px, and should work according to their standard.
-
You’re right, thanks, I didn’t think of setting a lower resolution in multiples of 48… (tiredness ^^).
So I put my favicon in 480*480 format.
To be continued ;-).
ps: I wanted to put a high resolution in order to test if the high resolution version is recognized by sites like https://realfavicongenerator.net/favicon_checker
