Incorrect number of blog followers showing up in the sidebar
-
I have around 200 followers on my blog, but recently this number shows in the thousands. Currently 3100. I receive an email every time someone signs up as a follower so I know the latter is not correct. Some days my blog shows up with the correct number and other days it does not. This started happening in the last month or two. Does anyone know why??
the URL is http://archangelsanddevas.wordpress.com
ThanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there – Your follower count includes your Facebook and Twitter followers since those services are connected via Publicize. If you go here and scroll down, you can see that you have 212 blog followers and over 1000 followers for both Facebook and Twitter – the total of all of that shows in your count:

When using Publicize is there any filtering that filters out those who follow the same blog on WordPress.com, Twitter, Facebook, Google + and LinkedIn? Or if I follow a WordPress.com blog from all of those five accounts is the follower count reflecting that quintuplicate number in the follower count? -
When a separate service is connected via publicize, the count just shows the total number of, for example, Facebook friends or Twitter followers for the connected account.
So if you follow someone’s WordPress.com site, you’re in their follower count. If you’re also their Facebook friend, you’re included in the count of their Facebook followers as well.

Aha! That’s what I thought. Publicize recognizes different accounts but does not filter. I see authors who have been hyped by publishers to “collect” as many followers as possible. I look at their HUGE follower counts with Dunbar’s number in mind and shake my head. No one has actual relationships with thousands of people. Some post here fretting about the accuracy of their follower counts, but when they use Publicize and have the same followers on WordPress.com and on multiple social networks their follower count numbers are inflated and they don’t seem to recognize that.

Thanks so much of figuring it out. Makes sense now although I don’t agree with the principle. It’s blog followers I’m looking for, not Fb and Twitter also. I’m going to disconnect from using Publicize.
Thanks again. -
You’re welcome and best wishes with your blog.
P.S. There are other methods of autoposting to social networks http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/05/28/auto-posting-to-social-media-sites-or-not/ -
Sorry to tag on the end of this, but does the number on the side bar also include the blog followers? Or, do I need to add my blog followers to the number in the side bar to get my total number of followers?
Thanks in advance.
