Incorrect Picture Posting to Facebook when Sharing

When sharing/posting a blog entry to Facebook, the incorrect image is included with the link. After 84 other blog posts, this hasn’t been an issue, until the 85th, when the feature image was updated/changed after publishing the blog. The image it’s showing is the first image that was included in the blog, before the feature image was inserted; it may be defaulting to the first image, but shouldn’t be since there’s a feature image now included. No matter what device or how this is shared (even by just copying and pasting the link), the same issue happens by including the wrong image. Cookies and cache have been updated. Computer has been restarted. Pages have been refreshed. Not sure if this is a WordPress or Facebook issue.

I’m having the exact same problem. I’m trying to share my newest post on Facebook and it’s displaying the old/previous featured image, even though I’ve deleted it from my media library. I’ve looked for the source code in the text version of the post, but can’t find any code related to it. Please help, Happiness Engineers!!

Hey @lizamead : I just got help via live chat. If you go to Facebook for Developers and search for the Sharing Debugger, you can click “Scrape Again” and Facebook will re-capture the link and image to your post. It fixed the problem for me. Just thought I’d pass that on. Christopher from WordPress sent me a custom URL to go to scrape/fix my problem, but maybe a search on Facebook can lead you to the right place. Hope that helps!

@compassandcamera, this worked! Thank you for passing this along! I did a search in Facebook for “Sharing Debugger”, typed in my blog page URL, then hit, “Scrape Again”, as you said. It worked like a charm. Such an easy fix for such a small yet frustrating issue. I haven’t heard from the Happiness Engineers yet, so I appreciate you taking time to pass this help along from your experience. I’m glad you got your issue resolved too. Happy blogging.
