Incorrect Post Spacing

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I have been trying to resolve an issue with my WordPress site. Short of changing themes, I do not know what else to do. I’m hoping I don’t need to change themes as I have this one all set up!

If you go to my homepage, you will see that there are large spaces between the rows of posts. I believe this is caused by some of the JavaScript, but not sure where to look for a resolution. I’ve inspected the HTML/CSS and don’t see anything related to that spacing there.

What’s really weird about this is that if I resize my browser window, the spacing fixes itself. Spacing is also off on mobile (tested on iOS Chrome and Safari), but refreshing the page fixes it for mobile.

    Any help is appreciated!

Just adding my site so you can see the issue: https://implicitlytyped.com/

  • Hi there,

I enabled the Baskerville-2 theme you’re using on a test site, and don’t see this issue there, so it’s something specific to your site that’s causing this.

I see via Jetpack that you’re actually using a child theme of Baskerville-2 that you created via the Child Theme Configurator plugin, so I’m guessing one of the modifications you’ve made in the child theme is causing this. You can confirm this easily enough by disabling that plugin and switching back to the original Baskerville-2 theme. If that fixes it, it confirms the problem is in your child theme.

We’re not able to help with issues caused by using a child theme, though, so in that case I’d recommend contacting support for the child theme plugin you’re using, in case they have any ideas.

    Thank you for the reply.

I deactivated and then deleted the Child Theme Configurator plugin, but I am still getting the same issues. I then switched my theme back to Baskerville 2, so it was no longer the child theme. This also did not resolve the spacing issue.

My child theme was not used to edit any of the theme’s PHP files, I only have minor CSS edits on the child theme relating mainly to colors.

Since the issue is still happening after changing away from the child theme (I have since switched back to using the child theme, but the plugin is still removed), this issue is not caused by the child theme.

This evening I will deactivate each plugin individually and see if there is a specific one that is causing this issue.

After deactivating all my plugins, and removing all my custom CSS (I even set up a second website to get a fresh install of the theme). It turns out the issue was not from any of that.

My issue is coming from the featured images I am using! As soon as I remove the featured image from a post, the post fits together as it should. You can see this as I removed the featured image from my most recent post, here.

So, with that said, are there image size specifications for what I can and can’t use as the featured image with this theme? I use a 1200×628 image for all my featured images. Does this need to be resized? Could it be something else?

  • Hm, Featured Images are 945 wide; 1400 wide when using the Full-Width template. You could try if that changes anything.

Thanks for those measurements. I resized some of my featured images, but I still get the spacing issue as soon as a post is updated with any image. I’m not sure what is causing this. I created a staging site and set it up nearly identical, but the spacing issue is not there.

I think my next step is to just cut my losses and start fresh unfortunately. I’ll update here with a resolution soon!
