Incorrect stats on WordPress website

  I think the stats on my WordPress-supported website are incorrect. I recently posted an article which was clicked over 11,000 times in a week according to Google shortener stats. However, the stats on WordPress only record about 500 hits. Is it possible that the stats are wrong, and, if so, is there any way to correct them?
