Increase Feature Image Size – Help!
-
Hi all,
I’m currently using the Penscratch theme for my blog and everytime I upload a feature image, it isn’t the right size. My feature picture should be the size of a standard instagram post picture. Is there anyway to override this default feature picture size?

Thankyou in advance :)

Hi there,
In this case the change you want to make is not possible. You can use custom CSS to make the featured image area taller, but the image itself is loaded on your site as already-cropped, and making the image area taller will only result in the image becoming stretched and distorted – it won’t show the full image because the full image is not being loaded by the theme.
To change this behaviour you’d need to edit the theme files themselves, and that’s not possible on WordPress.com.
Your theme is designed to use featured images that are 656 by 300 pixels big. These dimensions can be found in your theme’s documentation at https://wordpress.com/theme/penscratch-2. For best results you’ll need to make sure the featured images you use fit those dimensions, or else that the most important details in your images fit inside the middle 300 pixels of the image, because there’s no way to prevent the image from being cropped.
