Increase height of the footer, and add my own text above the WordPress text
-
Hello,
In the footer, I know that I cannot alter the original text, but I’d like to add my own text directly above the “The Twenty Fourteen Theme. Blog at WordPress.com.”
I don’t want to use the Footer Widget for this, because (1) the Footer Widget appears too far above the footer text (the WordPress text), and (2) the Footer Widget doesn’t allow me the width I need for my text.
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, when adding the text, it will automatically make the footer area taller (to accommodate the additional line), but I’ve included some top and bottom padding on the added text, and also included font weight and font size declarations just in case you wish to style the text so it stands out a little more from the existing.
.site-info:before { content: "This is my additional text"; display: block; font-size: 120%; font-weight: bold; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-top: 20px; } -
Great, thanks for your help, and for providing the extra formatting–it looks perfect. I have two followup questions:
1. I understand that the WordPress text cannot be changed–am I allowed to change it to something similar, like “Powered by WordPress”? I’m guessing not, but thought I’d ask.
2. Can I add an html entity to my footer text? I’d like to add the copyright symbol (©), but when I do so, it comes out as “©”.
-
Oops, the symbol actually shows up here–I meant that the text comes out as text, without HTML affecting it, if that makes sense.

1. No, you cannot change the content of the existing footer credits.
2. Yes you can. Are you using
& #169;
without the space between the & and # ? -
Hey there, I wasn’t using that–I was using
& copy;
without the space between the & and “copy;”However, neither of those codes are working (as you can see at the bottom of my page, I tried the code that you suggested).
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hmmm, not sure why that isn’t working. I’m on a Mac, so I went into your customizer and put in the © symbol for you. On Mac, it is just a matter of pressing Option G. Take a look at your site and verify that it is there.

Another reason to purchase a mac in the future… the copyright symbol is now there. Thanks again!
