increase in facebook followers not showing on blog
-
Our facebook followers amount to close to 3,000 but follower widget only shows a little over 2,000.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Where does it say that the number of Facebook followers you have should equal, or have any effect, on the number of followers of your WordPress.com website?
-

@sagebrushsays Are you referring to the “Follow Blog” widget? http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
If you choose to display the number of followers you have in that widget, it will include followers by Publicize. So if you use the Publicize feature to automatically post to Facebook, Twitter, etc., those followers should be included as well in the follower count that displays in the widget.
If that’s not what you are referring to or are having trouble with that feature, please post back here.
-
Also, the number of followers from Publicize will only change when you publish a new post and Publicize pings those services.
-
I have that problem as well. The widget will not refresh the follower count when a new connection is made.
-
On the stats page, in the block where it says “followers” (includes publicize) it shows our facebook followers amounting to 2,995. The wordpress followers are 309. But on the blog, in the wiget that allows readers to join – the followers are listed as – 2,070.
This only happened recently. Up to about 3 weeks ago, the tally was correct.

Please go to the link below and click the “Refresh connection with Facebook” button.

That should take care of it. If it doesn’t, please let me know.
Let me know which site you are having this problem on and I’ll be happy to check to see what might be happening for you.

Thanks Liz. Here’s the site I am having issues with: https://thebookwurrm.wordpress.com/

I looked at your widget and compared it to your total follower count and it looks about right to me. The widget doesn’t update in real time, but the total number of followers I see in your account is very much in line with the number of followers showing for you in the widget.
Note: The only followers that show up there are the ones connected via Publicize. So if you want you Facebook followers to show up, for example, you’d have to connect your Facebook account.
-
Therein lies the problem. It is connected to my FB account but for some reason, even though the post appears on my FB page, the “publicize” portion on the stats page does not show that the connection has been made.

(I’ve entered a screen capture showing the publicized account). -
@dirtyblackstiletto
Thanks for the extra info. It looks like you started the connection to Facebook, but it wasn’t authorized on the Facebook site. I’ve deleted the broken connection so you should be able to reconnect. -
Thanks liz. It didn’t work and the stats page still doesn’t list the account listed nor did the follower count increase to reflect the connected account. But it continues publicizing to my FB timeline anyway so I guess there’s that. Thank you for looking into it.

I’m sorry to hear that didn’t fix anything.
There’s one more thing you might try. The link below will take you to the page listing the apps you have connected to Facebook. You might try deleting the connection from that side and seeing if you can get it to work better after that.
