increase in spam traffic: what can be done centrally?
-
I’m seeing a significant increase in the spam message the last month or so. The spam filter is catching them but I have to then go in and delete them. Not a hardship I know, but it is an inconvenience. And a lot of the spam are very similar (the majority of which seem to be Italian for some reason..?!) so my question is, why can’t these be caught centrally and dealt with before they get to my blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

As more and more WordPress.com (and other Akismet users) mark the comments as spam, Akismet will “learn” and they will be caught more often.
The spam comments usually come in waves; a new spam technique or point of origin begins hitting blogs, then the anti-spam catches up and there’s a quiet period for a while.
The anti-spam we use here is best-in-class. Without it, spam comments would be nearly unbearable.

Is there a way to stop unwanted spam from appearing in the spam comments section? I am getting upwards of 50 per day from the same spammer with different emails listed on each spam. the nasty words that show up are too much for me to handle anymore even to delete all of them. Help! :)

You mean you want to prevent your spam from going into the spam file?
Why don’t you just list those words in your Blacklist box for a couple of weeks? That should be enough to exhaust a troll. Then you can just set it back to normal.

Here’s where to find your Comment Blacklist >
Dashboard > Discussion
scroll down to enter the data here >Comment Blacklist
When a comment contains any of these words in its content, name, URL, e-mail, or IP, it will be marked as spam. One word or IP per line. It will match inside words, so “press” will match “WordPress”.
scroll down again and click “Save Changes”
P.S. I had a troll submit defamatory comments containing obscenities over two years to both of my blogs. I refused to allow his persistence to control me. I simply kept using the Comment Blacklist and entering the new information and evenetually he stopped.

The comments are appearing in the spam section of comments. I have already listed keywords in the blacklist portion, but is only activated the regular comment section, not the spam section. Is there no way to block a specific nickname from continual spamming to the spam comment section?
-
I cannot mark those comments as spam. all I can do is delete them manually because they are already identified as spam. There must be a spam that is blocked by Akismet and other spam that is allowed through into the comment section of spam. I show two comment sections – one for regular comments and one for spam comments. thanx. sorry if I sound confusing :)

I understand what you are saying. Please allow me to be more blunt. There is not way we bloggers can use to stop this receipt of spam which has been properly identified by Akismet as spam and which is placed in the spam filter. It takes only moments to click the bulk delete button and shed your blog of it. I’m sorry but there are no other solutions we can offer.

Unless you have specific reports from users that their comments are disappearing, DO NOT LOOK AT THE SPAM.
I have to look through spam every day at my external blogs as part of my job, and it does your soul no good. In fact, it does no good at all unless you know that real comments are getting eaten.

thanx everyone – I will just grin and bear it then. I appreciate the info!
Have a great day all!!!

this may be a dumb question but when spam is in my spam section of comments is there anyway the spammer can attach anything to a photo? I have had a recent influx of spam in response to photos I post on my blog. I delete them and will continue to do so, but was worried if someone reads my blog and clicks on the photo if a spammer could somehow attach anything to it
