increasing viewers to a private blog
-
Hello. I have a free private blog. I see i can only have 10 viewers. What are the costs for increasing this to more viewers? Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The righteous ways to increase viewers don’t have anything to do with throwing money at the situation. That can be done but who really wants fake followers? Most of us want followers who enjoy reading what we publish and engage with our content rather than pay to click fake followers.
re: search engine discoverability
It can take weeks for search engines to index your site content. Please read this support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/ so you know we have no control over search engines positioning or appearance in the SERPs (search engine page results).
To verify blog ownership of a WordPress.com hosted blog with the major search engines you must use this process > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don’t feel panicky about this, please.WordPress.com automatically supplies sitemaps for our blogs to search engines – we do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/#xml-sitemaps-for-search-engines
To gain search engine attention, I recommend that you start publishing posts (not pages) https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ frequently. That’s because it can take weeks for search engines to index content in a new blog and/or to re-index content under a new URL.

Your site is private but you can change it to public easily. You must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog. To change blog visibility to Public go to > Dashboard > Settings > Reading and scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 1 illustrated in the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings
All that’s required to follow any blog is exactly what you were required to provide to register here, and that is a valid email address that the published posts can be sent to.
Here subscribers control their own subscriptions and frequency of receipt of posts from sites they subscribe to. We cannot act on their behalf.
You can set up email subscriptions here > Appearance > Widgets > Follow Blog Widgets by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
Widgets can be configured to appear only on certain pages (or be hidden on certain pages) by clicking on the Visibility button.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibilityWe have a subscription shortcode which you can make use of. The help page on it is right here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-subscription-shortcode/ You can also include the subscription shortcode at the end of every post you publish.
Staff have recently added the mailchimp widget for subscriptions and here is the link to the guide you must use https://en.support.wordpress.com/mailchimp
Additional information:
You can create a Subscribe page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ add and customize a contact form with multiple fields, change the email address where you’ll be notified, and mark feedbacks as spam from your dashboard on that page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/Read more at https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=following

Thanks for this – but i want to keep it private – its not that i want lots of people reading it but it is for a family blog so i just want to invite certain people only to share it. on this free package it says i can only invite 10 people. i wonder if this increases if i upgrade?

No, you misunderstand. There is not limit to the total number of contributors. There is a built-in spammer prevention so send out only 10 invitations at one point in time and then wait and manage those before sending out 10 more.
re: adding user access to a wordpress.com site
You can have either a public or a private WordPress.COM hosted blog and there is no limitation on the total number of contributors to any blog. If you’d like to invite others to publish posts or help approve comments on your blog, you can invite them to be a Contributor, Editor, or Author. Contributors cannot upload images. If you want users to receive updates each time you publish new content you can invite them to be a follower/viewer.
User roles determine the access level or permissions of a person authorized (invited by an Administrator) to use a WordPress.com site. Please read User Roles very carefully https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
To change blog visibility to Private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3. See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings
Then see:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#adding-users-to-your-site
https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#adding-viewers-to-a-private-siteUsername accounts are required but registering blogs under them is not required. The invitees will have to register a WordPress.COM username account which requires an email address only, but does not need to register a blog. That requirement is because the software has to be able to differentiate between hackers and official users and allow access only to those with username accounts and official roles on the blog.
If the person being invited to contribute to your blog does not already have one, he or she will have to register a WordPress.COM username account. He or she does not need to register a blog. There is a just a username please option. The invitees who lack username accounts select the “username only” option here: https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1
NOTE that as you have an account you would have to log out and clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies to witness the process as the invitees without accounts would experience it.
Upon receipt of the invitation, the invitee will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If the invitee is logged into their WordPress.com username account, he or she will be taken directly to your blog. If not, he or she will be taken to the log-in screen, where he or she can either log in, or can register a new WordPress.COM user account.
Invitees who do create a new WordPress.com account at that point will still need to log into wordpress.com, return to the invitation email and click the “Accept Invitation” button after doing so.
