INCREDIBLE SHRINKING POST

This may sound like a stupid question, but all of a sudden my font size on all of my pages is a lot smaller and the theme columns have shrunk so my backgrounds are off balance now. Is something going wrong here, or should I not have put the site in the dryer?

  • Unknown's avatar

or should I not have put the site in the dryer?

I recommend air drying – things last longer and you use a lot less energy and save money

There is a browser setting somewhere that can change the scale of the fonts and such – sorry no link for you – but there have been several cases like yours that were browser issues – you site looks fine to me –

But you have a lot of images and your site is slow to load – so you might think about optimizing your images a bit and / or using the More tag to not show the whole Post on the front page

Try adjusting the zoom view of your browser.
    Command + on a Mac,
    Control + on others.

Command or Control with 0 should reset the view to normal.

The heavy use of animated gifs also makes the site very slow to load.

And a look at the source code makes me wonder if you copy-pasting from Word or another such source: lots of “junk” code there. Word might be a good word-processor, but it doesn’t speak web / html code well.

Much obliged. to you auxclass and 1tess. The size problem is fixed. Thanks to all for the advice and kind attention. (This is why my plans for world domination, or at least plans to construct a comfortable underground lair, always go afoul. Not very good with the technology.) Also, yes, I’ve had a few comments in the past about the slowness of loading. I suppose I could streamline the post. On the other hand I seem to be an image pack rat. Know any good blog psychiatrists?

Hide most of the images behind the More Tag – leave one image on the front page for each Post – helps traffic – then when people click on the Read More the rest of the Post will load

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

I do that all the time on my site – keeps the load time down and visitors only see the images they really want to

No psychiatrists. I think digital photography makes me take way to many pictures because “it’s only a few pixels” as opposed to the old film days when one worried about how much it would cost to develop and print. Spend lots of time choosing “the perfect image” then trying to use them all… Yes, perhaps a psychiatrist…

You could use the more tag as auxclass mentioned to show fewer of those gifs on your front page:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

Also, are you pasting from another source or are you writing directly into the visual (or text / html) editor? Junk code can add to loading time and may even wreck your theme.

  • Unknown's avatar

At this point I’m pasting from another source for a lot of major items on the pages. I do note some of the codes seem needlessly endless. I will consult the link you provided. Thanks.

If you must paste from other sources, then use the button on the visual editor for “paste from word” or the button “paste as plain text” or paste the text into the text (formerly called html) editor.

It could really mess up your blog at any time; also bad code makes pages load slower.

You could also look into using an off-line editor such as Windows Live Writer which I think works in a way similar to word-processor but gives you good code. (I’m on a Mac so I can’t use that.)

I use Windows Live Writer – yes it works like a Word Processor – has a few quirks but saves me a lot of work and I have a copy of the Post on my PC

This is going to be extremely helpful. Thanks very much for the information.
