Indenting Comment Replies

  I’m not sure if Indenting is the proper word, but you know how on some people’s Blog’s when you go to Reply to a specific Comment, it Indents over to the right a bit, as opposed to lining up on the left with the Comments. Is that a Theme thing? Or can you set it up to do that with any Theme?

  Hi. I believe you can change that under Settings > Discussion > Default article settings:

  They’re called threaded comments. I’m not sure if all themes support them. However, some themes indent more than others. Have a look at the theme showcase and look at the comments areas for the themes you like and you should be able to see at a glance which indent and which don’t. Apart from that, airodyssey is right – you need to go to the ‘discussion’ part of Settings and adjust how many comment (threads) you want to be visible. I believe the default is 3 (so, as an example, someone comments, you reply via the ‘reply’ link on the first comment, they reply via the reply link on the second comment) and then with just 3 there isn’t another ‘reply’ link shown so you or the commenter has to start a new thread. You can change that to be a higher or lower number.

  Thank you, there’s Box under Other Comment Settings (ah as you say #4) called “Enable threaded (nested) comments and it’s default number is 3 levels deep. It appears to already be Enabled, and I hadn’t noticed it working on my Blog? Is this the correct thing? And is it simply not working you think?

  @Absur ah you must have been writing that as I was writing my reply to Air… I’ll check out the Link you gave, perhaps it doesn’t work with the Theme I have

  Hi there,
  You are using Twenty Ten and the appearance change is not so much on the indenting. It’s the blue background color behind the author’s comments. The comments are technically “nested” as there are reply links at the bottom left corner of each one, but they aren’t “indented”.

  Oh wow you’re right, and it is actually slightly/barely indented, not sure how I missed that, lol Actually now I see it the blue area is lined up with the type in the white area, the type in the blue is slightly indented, messed with my eyes I guess, lol
