Independent Publisher 2: No image when shared to social media
-
I am pretty much a total novice when it comes to WordPress and websites in general. I have updated my blog to use the Independent Publisher 2 theme, which is working brilliantly for the content i share on there. as it’s predominantly text. One issue I am having is that when I share the link on social media, I’ve tried LinkedIn and Twitter so far, i don’t seem to get an image with the post?
I thought the featured image in the header would likely pull through, but it doesn’t seem to. I am using the free theme – is there anything I have missed in the customiser that is causing this? Or is there a simple fix i can use?
I am currently using one of the suggested images from WordPress as the header image until I can add an appropriate custom image for the site.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Hi there!
When you share a post on social media using Publicize, those social networks crawl the page and look for Open Graph meta tags in the head to build a complete post preview (with an image, title, description, …).
WordPress.com automatically creates these Open Graph Meta tags for you, and it will used a featured image (which is not your site’s header image) or the first image in the post if one exists.
However, it will not use your site’s header image as the image for social media. If there aren’t any valid images to use, no image will be posted.
For example on your most recent post – there are no images in the post and therefore there would not be any image posted to social media. You can read more about how images work with Publicize here:
https://wordpress.com/support/publicize/#images-in-publicize
In the future, just make sure you add an image to your post and that image should post to your social networks without any trouble.
