Index of Post Titles

Before I moved to WP.Com, I was using the software in WP.org. And it provided a very helpful feature that listed all your post-titles in chronological order.

WP.com doesn’t have one. There is a Widget that does something similar but it is limited to 150 posts which sharply limits its use. Readers now have to either do a ‘Search’ or rummage through the ‘Archives’ to locate a particular Post Title.

Given that the Widget already exists, it seems straightforward to simply modify it to allow more that 150 Posts. But that limit apparently is cause by another limit that requires no more than 150 Posts to be downloadable all at once for reasons of time-delays.

Surely, this modification can be done without too much work. Do give it a thought.

    Hi,

Which WordPress.com widget will display up to 150 posts? Display posts shortcode displays a maximum of 100 posts.

According to the Archives Shortcode support page, the shortcode will display by default an unlimited number of posts. It may be customized to display posts in chronological order by adding an order argument. Insert the code in a text widget. Try the following:
    [archives order=asc]
Oddly, there appears to be no argument that allow inclusion of the published dates.

    Thanks.

Its not the Posts. Its a listing of Post-Titles [ i.e. ‘Index’].

The widget is called ‘Recent Posts’ and it is possible to modify it to list Post-Titles. But it limits to 150 because that apparently is the limit of downloadable Posts at one draw.

I don’t know why they were linked up. But it seems that it should be fairly simple to unlink them and allow an unlimited number of Post-Title listings on the widget.

    You’re welcome.

The widget is called ‘Recent Posts’ and it is possible to modify it to list Post-Titles.

I believe it only lists post titles by default, and include dates by checking a box.

But it limits to 150 because that apparently is the limit of downloadable Posts at one draw.

That’s odd. Where did you find the information on the limit? I see that the number can go well beyond that at Customize > Widgets. I ran it up to 999, and then the next click took it back to 150.

I was aware of the Recent Posts widget, but hadn’t included that in my suggestions because at the wp-admin widgets page, after 99 the third digit is blocked behind the arrows. It appeared to go back to 10 after 99.

I ran into this problem earlier and sent it in to Support where they informed me about the 150 limit. When you open the Front Page, the number of Post that display on a scroll is 150, meant to limit delays, which is apparently where this limit comes from.

You seem to be dealing with two different widgets? One which allowed up to 999; and the other to 99? Not sure which ones.

I didn’t notice a Customize>Widgets option in the display. Can you tell me where you find it?

    Tks
