Infinite scroll
-
I would like to add infinite scroll to my current theme (Mystique) – -or change to a theme that has infinite scroll. I have tried to change themes, however when I do, all my posts are gone. They still show up in the “all posts” section of the dash board, but they are not on any of the menu pages of the new theme. Changing back to the Mystique theme put the posts back where they belonged…but now that I know what infinite scroll is, I think I’d really like to try it. Please help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Mystique doesn’t support Infinite Scroll, so you’ll need to switch to another theme if you’d like to have it on your blog. You can browse through a list of themes that support infinite scroll here:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/infinite-scroll/
I see that you’ve set up a Custom Menu for your site. When you switch themes, you may need to reactivate your custom menu on the new theme — that should bring back the menu links to your posts.
If that doesn’t work or if you have any questions about that, please let me know. :)

Hi!
Thank you so much – I am very new to this – – so excuse this question if it sounds silly – but does infinite scroll get rid of seeing only a portion of the content and having to click on the “see older posts” to see more? I looked up themes that were listed as having infinite scroll, yet other blogs I looked at with those same themes still had the “see older posts” at the bottom of the screen. Could you explain what infinite scroll is?After changing themes, I did try to reactivate my custom menu, and still no posts showed. Changing back to Mystique Theme put them all back though.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help.

Hi there,

Yep! When you have infinite scroll, it will automatically load more posts at the bottom of the page so you don’t have to click to see more. You can read more about how it works here: Infinite Scroll
Even if a theme supports infinite scroll, though, you can disable it. That’s why you may see the “Older Posts” button on some blogs that use these themes. You can disable infinite scroll under Settings > Reading in your dashboard, or by adding footer widgets to your blog.
After changing themes, I did try to reactivate my custom menu, and still no posts showed. Changing back to Mystique Theme put them all back though.
Can you let me know what theme you tried to switch to? I’d be happy to look into that for you.

I think I would really like to test out that option of infinite scroll! The theme I tried was the piano black theme. I wanted a theme that was free, had infinite scroll, but also had the options for custom menu, customer header, and custom background color (I liked the black background).
-
Oh- and I also want the option to have links for twitter, flickr, Instagram, and Pinterest, and YouTube but can’t tell which themes have that option…. Thanks for your help on all this!

I’m so glad you figured it out. :) The My Life theme looks great with your blog, and I see you added in links to your social media sites.
If you’re interested, we also have some tips for how to add social media icons in your sidebar: Add Social Media Buttons to Your Sidebar or Footer
Just let me know if I can help with anything else. Also, I can’t help but mention — Cello is really adorable! :)

Thanks so much! I really like the My Life theme – and I am SO happy with the infinite scroll – I feel as though people will be more likely to keep scrolling down and looking back at earlier posts with this option!
You must have read my mind – I was going to reply today with 2 questions to you:
(1) how to add the social media buttons in the side bar! When I get home from work today, I am going to read up on the link you provided, and give it a try! – thank you for suggesting this!
(2) if it is possible to change the color of the main font and or main content area background color…(I found how to change the “links” word colors – but didn’t find an option on how to change the color of rest of the font on the page. I did discover I could change the font style, which I did. I thought maybe the font should be black, or darker, to make it easier on the eye to read – – or am I being too picky at this point?!Thanks again for all of your help – This really has been THE best support experience I have had from any site I’ve ever submitted a question to!
Also, thank you for the complement on Cello – – she is my “baby”..and as you can see from my blog, I am so very proud of her!
Have a great day!

I’m so glad I’ve been able to help so far! :)

Do let me know if you have questions! The example on that page is for adding Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, Email, and RSS icons, but you can use the same method to add buttons for any site.
If the HTML code on that page looks confusing, you can also use the post editor to create the HTML code your need:
- To start, create a new draft post (you won’t have to publish it).
- In the post editor, you can add each of your social media button images to the post with a link to your page on that social media site. We have tips for how to do that here: Image Links
- Once you’re done adding those buttons, you can switch from the Visual editor to the Text editor (in the upper right of the editor).
- You can copy the HTML code from that editor and paste it into a Text Widget, and your social media buttons will appear in the sidebar.
(2) if it is possible to change the color of the main font and or main content area background color…
This is possible — along with custom colors and fonts, you can add Custom CSS to customize your theme’s design. You can use CSS to change just about any design element that isn’t already included as a custom color or font setting. :)
If CSS is new to you, we have some tips for getting started here:
To add custom CSS, go to Appearance > Customize in your dashboard and select CSS from the Customize tools. In the CSS editor, you can enter the following CSS:
#main { color: black; } #main { background: white; }The first part of that CSS code will change the font color of the text in that main content area to black, and the second part will change the background color in the main content area to white. You can play around with different colors there, too. :) Let me know how that works for you!
And if you have any other questions about what you can do with CSS, most of our CSS support is done in our community forums by both staff and volunteers:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customizationYou can posts questions in that forum and they’ll be happy to help out there. :)

I tried adding the text widget and uploading the icons…it worked! however… I got the icons and the links to work, but instead of showing up in a neat little line, they are “stacked”… any ideas??? Thank you!!!
-
Ah, yeah, I see what you mean! It looks like each of the images is center-aligned — that means they will all try to center themselves vertically like that.
If you align the images to the left, they will line up horizontally, one right after the other. I went ahead and made that change in your widget, and it looks like they are lined up in a row now. :)
Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will attempt the text and background color changes tonight!

Hello!
I’m sorry it took me so long to get around to this, but I would like to know an email address of WordPress’s main customer service so I can send them an email about how helpful you were to me when I started my blog and had NO idea how to do the things I wanted to do! I want to be sure you are recognized for your patience, efforts, efficiency, and knowledge. Thank you, again, for all the help you provided me with !

Thanks so much for your kind words, Jen! :) It’s awesome to hear that feedback.
There isn’t a main email address or other contact for sending in this kind of feedback, but we do post positive feedback from users to our Support site here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/hugs/
If you’d like, we can quote a portion of your message on that page, along with your first name (and last initial if you want) and a link to your blog. If you’d rather not have your message posted there, don’t worry — I’m just happy I could help you get started with your blog. :)

Quoting me is absolutely fine – I just wanted to be sure that WordPress was aware of the great job you are doing! …and my first name, last initial is ok also (Jenny B) – -Thanks again!

I’m baaaaaack!! Ok – I had the 2-step verification process set up on my wordpress account. I had the Google Authenticator App on my iPhone 4s… I got a new phone, the iPhone 5s…and backed everything up to my computer, and then uploaded to my new phone so that everything would transfer over – which it did – -apps, settings, pics, – everything. …I went to log in to WordPress, and it asked for a code – so I opened the Google Authenticator app, and the codes are gone! I cant figure out how to set it up again. The google authtenticator app asks first for “scan barcode” or “manual entry” … I chose manual, as I could not find a bar code anywhere – -then it asks for a user name (in the form of (email visible only to moderators and staff)) , and also a “Key” … do you have any idea how to do this – or know who I can speak to that can help? thanks SO much. Happy Holidays!!!!!

Hi there,
Because of how Google Authenticator works, it doesn’t transfer your accounts from one phone with the app to a new phone. You’ll need to disable two-step verification on your WordPress.com account and then set it up again with the app on your new phone.
We have instructions for disabling it here: Disabling Two-Factor Authentication
It will ask you to enter a code to disable it. You can use one of your backup codes if you don’t have the old phone anymore.
If you lose access to your account and can’t log in to disable two-step authentication, you can get help on this page:
https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Click the “Need More Help?” link next to the button, and fill out the form. Our account recovery team will get back to you by email with more information about regaining access to your account.
