Infinite scroll on how many themes?
-
So it’s on MistyLook too?! Yea, I use that theme for one of my blogs. Why would WordPress.com not make this an option after hearing considerable feedback from bloggers?
I honestly thought they would not touch the older themes with this frustrating feature. It’s only a good feature if one has a fast computer and fast Internet service.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WP [Matt] doesn’t give a shit about what you think if it means more money for them [him].

Switch to a theme with footer widgets and then you will be able to drop an empty text widget into a single footer widget area. When you do that you will have the option to disable infnite scroll on the Settings > Reading page. Then you can regain control of how many posts display on the front page of the blog. -
Even with a fast connection and computer the scrolling can be problematic if you surf into one of those photo sites with all big megabyte pictures and a ton of pictures in each Post –
-
Gotcha, timethief on that suggestion. Now it’s a matter of convincing him, since the aforementioned blog is for his biz.
Appreciate all the feedback so far.

I’m late to this discussion – but my blog theme is Misty Look and suddenly it no longer looks like what I want. I haven’t even gotten as far as trying to understand the ramifications of the infinite scroll. My concern at the moment is that the footer, sometime over the last few hours, is suddenly occupying half the page. I’m new to this… is the footer problem related to infinite scroll? If yes, what can I do about that?
-
Apparently they have decided to over-ride the widget in the footer to prevent infinite scrolling. It looks terrible! No question. Very stupid and unproffessional.
-
Could you explain what you mean, 1tess? Infinite scrolling isn’t being prevented on my blog. It has infinite scrolling, as well as the footer problem. The infinite scrolling feature which, I absolutely do not want, is rather pointless though because it isn’t possible to read most of the blog’s text because the footer is blocking it!

It’s late for me to be up, but did Misty Look used to have footer widgets? I just tried it in a test blog, and there is no option for footer widgets! Does that mean they (matt) has grandfathered in footers which look like the bad paste-up job on distancemediation’s site but have also eliminated footer widgets on a theme which used to have them?
I’m sorry, but it’s the middle of the night and I can’t remember if Misty Look used to have footer widgets.
-
No, MistyLook has a sidebar only.
All free wp.com themes documented here: -
You should contact support: that block at the bottom of your screen looks like a bug. I can’t reproduce it, and don’t see it on my test blog, nor do I see it on a few wp.com blogs using Misty Look.
-
That block at the bottom is a bg image added to the footer via CSS editing.
@distancemediation: If you don’t know how to fix the CSS yourself, you should post in the CSS forum and wait for a staff reply.

That is quite weird. Why would that happen? I did not make any changes to the blog – and certainly didn’t do any CSS editing. Thanks for the tip – I’ll try the CSS forum.

I’ve tried this workaround with empty text widget in the footer area(s) of Bueno and it’s not working. There appears to be no option for the number of posts under “Settings/Reading” and my site page seems locked in infinite scroll. Has WP worked around our work around?

Has WP worked around our work around?
No I’m sorry there is no other workaround. At first the footer widget workaround did work on Bueno and did result in the ability to disable infinite scroll, then Staff changed something so it stopped working.
