I’m not sure if I get this, but I was under the impression that when you send a post to a category, that the post would be taken off the main page, Instead it’s in a category, and on the main page line up. Is it the theme I’m using?

No. We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages. Note: There must be one published post in each Category in order for there to be anything to display. Iif you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page for your site like “welcome” and also create a “blog” page for your posts to display on and change the designation here > Settings > Reading
