Info for this beginner please…

    Hi WORDPRESS, sorry for being so dumb!

    I am a Songwriter/Musician and want my site to reflect this.

    I have just begun the process of signing up but I did this prior to asking some questions so here they are. I use FTP to interface with my current internet provider, FTP/cPanel, but I want to change over to WordPress. Is it still FTP to do this? I have a FTP/cPanel dress with my current provider.

    My own domain i.e. http://www.thewidest.ocean.com. I own this and also the ones below.

    Can you provide ‘hosting’ for my domains or do I need to use my current provider?
    Can you provide and Email account – info@thewidestocean and (email visible only to moderators and staff)

    Can I have my own artwork; backdrop & profile pic etc.

    Can I place music Need to have mp3 and .wav file on my site and also movies, mp4?

    Can I drag and drop to create and make changes to all pages

    How do I connect, create the link between my ISP and WordPress?

    Can I do all these things with the Premium, $120 per year or will I need to use the Business package $396 per year?

    Hi Greg,

    There are two types of WordPress:

    1. WordPress.com: where the site is created and hosted here (no FTP access).
    2. WordPress.org: the site is created with WordPress.org software , hosted with a provider of your choice and maintained by you (updates, security etc).

    So the first step will be to decide which option is best for your plans.

    Can you provide ‘hosting’ for my domains or do I need to use my current provider?

    Hosting (for the site itself) is included in all paid plans“>WordPress.com plans.

    Existing domains can remain registered with your current domain provider and connected to WordPress.com with domain mapping. Or they can be transferred to WordPress.com and renewed here each year. Custom domains are a feature of paid plans — each one includes a credit to cover the cost of one domain and the rest can be added for an additional cost.

    Can I have my own artwork; backdrop & profile pic etc.

    The customisation options can vary slightly for each theme but most give you the option to change the background colour and/or add a background image. Adding a profile photo will be possible.

    If you want to upload audio and video files, the Premium or Business plan will be your best bet. These plans include a higher amount of storage space than Personal and Free plans, which will be needed for larger files.
