information on changing domain
-
hello, I currently have a website with 123 reg and pay them hosting fees, for my domain and also my email addresses. I want to build a new website and I am thinking of moving over to wordpress however will my existing website with 123 reg stop working when I move the domain over to you? I wanted to design the website ahead of changing anything so the transfer from one website to the other would be smooth
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Good Morning :)
This is a great question! Yes, you can set up your new site and then move the domain over once it is all ready to go.
It’s a very common way to move a site. Go ahead and build your new site on WordPress.com. Import your content, customize the theme, get it all ready to launch.
Keeping the new site private will help prevent any SEO confusion since you’re going to have the same content on two different addresses.

There’s 2 ways to connect the domain. Either will work fine.
1. Mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
2. Transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/The mapping option can take up to 72 hours for the dns changes to take full effect. The site will potentially not work across the globe, or work intermittently for that time frame. It’s usually pretty instantaneous though.
With the transfer option it will take 5 days for that process to complete.
Write back with more questions :)
