Can we have a custom site (developed in php), have a Single Sign On with a WordPress Membership site hosted as a subdomain on this custom site? If so, how?

  • Hi @john44f11e17b96, if it’s a subdomain, I can’t see how there would be any conflict at all. You’d be welcome to host the subdomain here in fact:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/

There are also ways to combine custom PHP with a WordPress site if you wanted them to be all in one, typically through a theme’s functions, page templates, or plugins. Just note if you need to add custom code you’d like to install on our managed hosting service, you will need our Business plan, because outside code adds complexity to our support and maintenance.

Our service includes hosting, as well as SSL, direct WordPress support, maintenance, security, and many other features that tend to cost extra with other providers. And of course, you are welcome to use your own free copy of WordPress with another host, use Jetpack’s SSO, and use community resources or hired contractors as needed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Or use a combination of both for different sites, if that suits you best. I hope this helps a bit! Let us know if you have more questions about our service, or if you want to ask developer questions about WordPress, you might also find these forums helpful:

So is Single Sign On with a WordPress Membership site hosted as a subdomain on this custom site that was developed in php, possible?

  • Unknown's avatar

Can you give us more information into what the PHP site is and what service or plugins you would be using on the WordPress site for the membership portion?

SSO will only work if you’re using the Jetpack plugin and the membership login uses the standard wp-login.php page in WordPress.

Regarding using a subdomain, the WordPress site can be installed to the subdomain, but it would be a separate entity from your PHP site.

Additionally, we can only help and advise on sites hosted here at WordPress.com, so if this particular membership site would be hosted elsewhere, you would need to reach out to the community at WordPress.org for guidance in setting up the two to work together:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

Otherwise we’re happy to help if you’re looking to host your membership subdomain with us! We just need to know a bit more about how the two will work together.

    Thanks!

Hi here’s some more details about it. We have custom site, want to use wordpress for paid membership area that will include special content … we want our users to be able to use same login that is generated through the custom php site, with the wordpress membership site. Is that possible? and if it’s possible how?

  • we want our users to be able to use same login that is generated through the custom php site, with the wordpress membership site

Ahhhh, now that part could be trickier if the custom php site isn’t using WordPress.

It sounds like you also aren’t necessarily interested in admitting existing WordPress.com logins so much as allowing logins from the existing PHP site to work with a WordPress instance you’re creating… is that right?

If so, these forums aren’t your best bet, since our support relates specifically to WordPress.com and its services (including SSO in Jetpack). I’d try the developer forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ , or this thread from Stack Overlfow may help:
