Insecure Connection
-
I recently made a free wordpress.com site as my online portfolio. When I got it all finished to my satisfaction, I searched my site as if I were a different person to see if it came up ok using a search engine. It didn’t. It had an error message : ‘Your connection is not secure. The owner of www.(my website).wordpress.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website. ‘ So, I clicked on the ‘Advanced’ button. It said, ‘www.(my website).wordpress.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for the following names: *.wordpress.com, wordpress.com Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN . A friend who is more knowledgeable than I about WordPress.com said it looked as if my site has been hacked! When I made my site, I just made it…now I find out I’m supposed to have a security certificate!! I never saw that option. I just bungled my way through in making my site, so I missed that step!! Can somebody help me?! Do I have to start over? And can I cut and paste my hard-worked-on info to a new site? How do I get a security certificate?? Is all my stuff on my site ‘infected’ somehow from being hacked? I had no financial info on the site, so nobody could’ve gotten that. I spent a week on building my site…can I save it?? Somebody HELP!!! Thank you, CD

Re: my previous question/post of Jul 3. My friend suggested that, since I was not selling anything on my site, it didn’t need to be https, but could be http…then the error message would not come on.
I’m still such a novice. She told me to try to change it when I logged on. So I logged on and poked around…I found my web address listed…lo and behold, it is http not https. Duh!! Lol. It was fine all along! I just THOUGHT it was https.
SO…….now it’s all fine! Thank You God!!!! CD
