Insert a Header text

  I have the free wordpress and I would like to insert a header text, not an image. How can I do that ? All tutorials I found mentioned that I need a Insert Header and Footer plugin, but I cannot find that plug in on my available plug ins. Is there any other way ? thanks, Marcia
