insert Gallery

  • Unknown's avatar

I have inserted a gallery in my post but I want different gallery images (that open into a carrousel) placed in different locations in the post. When I want to insert a second gallery it ignores where I place my cursor and lumps all the gallery images together in one location in my post.

When you upload the images to the same post or page, they are recognized as a single Gallery. If you want to split the images into two or more groups within the post, you have to use “includes”.

Thank you Jennifer! For a beginner it sure is a lesson in keeping your head cool and being patient. Very patient.

One more question: when I click on my thumbnail in my post it displays beautifully in ‘Carrousel’, but when I then click on ‘View full size” (lower right) i get a seperate page with the image exactly the same size. How can I get a much larger image?

    Thanks,
    Michael

Yes, patience is definitely a virtue. :)

The size of the larger image depends on the size of the image you’ve uploaded. In the Photo Carousel, images will be dynamically resized to the resolution of the screen being used to view it, but I believe no larger than the image you’ve uploaded. To get a much larger image in “View Full Size”, you’d have to upload a much larger image to begin with.

Uploading very large images is a bit of a double-edged sword because when images are greatly resized for viewing, they do lose clarity and additionally those really large images eat up your 3GB of space much faster.

Do you have a post or page where I could see this “in action”?

    Hi Jennifer,
Thanks to your help I believe I have solved my problem, but if you have any further suggestions they would be appreciated.

Here is the draft in question:

    @mryanblog
We Volunteers cannot view any drafts ie. previews on another blogger’s blogs.

@hyperculturemia – It looks like at the moment the Image Carousel is not working on some sites, as I have just checked my Gallery demo blog and they are not working there either, but they are working on my main photography site. The Image Carousel is the default viewer in both places. It may be that Staff are working on something, so give it a little bit and if you don’t see the Image Carousel return, then post a separate thread.

@mryanblog-I’m glad I could help, but it is hard sometimes without seeing what you’re trying to describe. :) Unfortunately we cannot see previews/drafts unless you “invite” someone to do so via the Writing Helper’s “Request Feedback” function. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-helper/

Jennifer, I found and the ‘Feedback Request’ function but don’t have an email address to get it to you.

@hyperculturemia – I just checked my Gallery demo site again to see if the Image Carousel is working and it is not using the Ascetica theme. I’ve also opened a bug report in the Themes forum about this.

I switched themes to Chunk and the Image Carousel is working correctly for me. So, first I would check to make sure that the check box to display the Image Carousel under Dashboard>Settings>Media is checked. If it isn’t, then check it and save your settings. If it is checked, please post back here.

@mryanblog-If you have any further questions, please feel free to post them publicly in the forums. That way we can all learn from the discussion. :)
