“Insert image into post” suddenly not working

The uploader appears to be working fine until it comes time to actually insert the image into the post. I click that button and the screen goes to the dark covering. Nothing else happens. The top bar of the uploader remains, so I am able to click the X to close it, thankfully.
Last time I used the uploader (a day or two ago) it was working fine.
Any ideas? I’m using Firefox.

you might want to try the browser uploader instead of the flash uploader for the time being.

This is a problem that has been going on intermittently since the new version of the image pane came out. After going through the forums with a fine tooth comb and trying everything I saw there I finally wrote directly to Support with the usual result … no response.
One thing I have noticed is that if I insert the image before putting in the text then the image seems to be going in properly except that the radio buttons for positioning the image don’t work.
Frankly I dubt that the new image pane will ever work. It seems to be incredibly poorly coded and full of bugs.

I have the exact same problem but only when I login using https (with the little SSL padlock showing in the bottom right of the browser). It’s not a problem for me if I login using the format http://example.wordpress.com/wp-login.php
Based on the number of users on these forums that have actually commented that they have problems inserting images and knowing that many times more silent users will have the same problem, I think the wisest move would be for Automattic to revert to the previous, non ‘pop-up’ image uploader/inserter. This would then allow all users to merrily continue inserting images as before and allow Automattic to conduct more tests on the new image uploader/inserter in a development environment (and with more beta testers), rather than in a production environment.

I am a new WordPress blogger and have never had any success uploading a photo (except for the avatar, I think, that is used when I post a comment). I had to get a friend to upload my header for me. I assume this is because I have a dialup connection and/or because the browser my iMac uses is Safari. I tried Internet Explorer though, and it didn’t work. With all of them, all that happens is I see this horizontal grey and white bar that looks like the peppermint post in front of old-fashioned barbershops.
I just wonder if it’s the dialup connection that is the problem, or the browser, or both, and if there’s anything else I can try.
Sorry to butt in on your topic hear. The only threads I was able to find, being new at this, were all about image-uploading not working *now*, not about it not working *at all.*

I am having this same problem on Mac with Firefox and a PC with IE – exactly as described. I’ve never had problems before – my partner in crime posted yesterday with an image just fine.

I am having problems with all media when it comes time to “insert into post” I get nothing but a blank box to close and nothing inserted. I am also getting a javascript warning: Line 11, Character 3, Object Doesn’t Support this Object or Method. I am using IE 7.0.6 on up to date Vista.

Hi – I found a round about way of getting images into the post. It may work for you. I am using Firefox updated browser. 1. Open insert media box. 2. Browse to locate image in your files. 3. Highlight the image file and click on OPEN. 4. Wait until a thumbnail of the picture and a URL appears below. 5. Highlight the URL, go to Edit and Copy. 6. Click on save this image at the bottom of the box. 7. When saved, click outside the whole box into the grey to close the box and return to the post. 8. Place the cursor where you want the image to go. 9. Open the icon with the little tree. 10. Paste the URL in there. 11. Click INSERT. Good luck! Julie PS If you don’t save as in step 6 the image will not be accessible from the Media Library later and may disappear from the post.

I am having the same problem… lets hope they get this fixed soon. And it isn’t a Mac problem or a slow connection problem. I am highspeed and on a PC and it was working fine last week… and now its not. Boo!

artintegrity – you rock! every time this has happened to me, i scream and twitch, because there’s nothing worse than that “um… hello… you worked 5 minutes ago” feeling. i find it hard to believe that them thare WP people haven’t fixed this yet. weird.

since the updated release of wordpress.com i have been unable to post any image or video. i can upload without trouble, but i cannot post from the gallery. when attempting to post a new screen loads buts its a blank page.

Although I am using the Safari browser, I copied and pasted my uploaded photo url into the post, and that worked for me.

I had the same problem I logged out and cleared my cache and cookies
and everything went back to normal…I’m using Firefox/2.0.0.14

Same here, it’s been like this for days. VEry annoying. Sometimes it will work if you just keep repeating the steps. but really. . . .
Lots of things aren’t working since the revamp of the dashboard. Can’t update my blog roll either. Widgets are being fickle. Sigh. . .

This worked for me. Make sure you have only ONE tab open in your browser when trying to import an image.

Great artintegrity, but its still anther case of working around the system rather than having one that works and the annoying thing is that after the old editing suite had failed for ages it was finally getting sorted. Now we are back to square one with a unnecessarily cumbersome, complex and totally unworkable tool.
WordPress, please fix as a priority!
